By the way, do you have a personal website and does it have a home page? (I’m pretty sure it does… 😁)

I would love to know: what’s on your “home” and why?

Feel free to share a link, of course. 🤗 As always, I’m also asking on behalf of my newsletter subscribers.

@matthiasott Mine (https://stefanbohacek.com) has quotes from other people about my work to, hopefully, give me some credibility.

@stefan@stefanbohacek.online avatar

@matthiasott It also has the pronunciation of my name, because people seem to mostly want to call me "st'fahn".

@matthiasott very little information and a few cool tricks. But it is colourful. I really like simple websites that still have a lot of character, so that’s what I went with. I don’t even link to side projects… probably not the best idea tbh

noleli,
@noleli@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott Home is recent blog posts, a mix of “featured” stuff (blog posts and projects), and a bio

klausblog,
@klausblog@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott my home page is focused on my professional activity. I have a short bio, a What I Do section, and latest blogs section. I wanted this to act as a one pager about me.The is perfect to build fast websites. https://danielprindii.com

@matthiasott My site is a portfolio so the home page is basically filled with my work. I limit this to 10 projects as it gives a good overview of my style.

There's more info in the About menu, including a Personal User Manual, /Uses, FAQ, and a links page (linktree style).

The page that I update more often is /timeline - I'm definitely no blogger lol.

@matthiasott Although I have an inactive blog site as well, I prefer my portfolio site as my personal home on web. It’s nice to collect my favourite brand design work, especially logos in one place:

@ilkkajii Very nice! I love the clean style!

@andycarolan Thanks. I like to keep things simple! 🙂

@ilkkajii Mission accomplished! 😅

@matthiasott a quote from invisible cities that tells more about me than anything I could manage https://cianfrani.dev

danbeeston,
@danbeeston@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott Everything I've ever made for the web is at https://invisiblespiders.com
My current homepage is just microblogs and a list of all the media I've consumed.

ryanrandall,
@ryanrandall@hcommons.social avatar

@matthiasott My site's landing page has a relatively brief "About Me" description, plus links to "featured sections" and recent or featured blog posts: https://www.ryanpatrickrandall.com

I used to have a much, much longer "About Me" section, but I recently was inspired to massively trim it down by looking at @kissane & @dansinker 's sites.

kissane,
@kissane@mas.to avatar

@ryanrandall @matthiasott @dansinker Oh man, I have to make a real homepage, like at least a little bit, instead of just like "you get a blog post!"

cory,
@cory@social.lol avatar

@matthiasott I re-worked mine a bit recently: it's got a brief about me blurb at the top, my status from omg.lol's API, my last played track, a featured post section (3 of the posts marked featured are chosen at random at build time) and a recent posts section.

davatron5000,
@davatron5000@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott My homepage is a half-finished vector illustration of my name, my last 8 posts, and my active side projects. I felt like my writing and side projects were the thing I wanted to emphasize most.

ovidem,
@ovidem@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott I have an intro that explains the name of the site, a brief description about me and what the site is about, and then an overview of related links, including my latest blog posts. https://distinctivequality.com

rachsmith,

@matthiasott links to all of the notes on the site. I read somewhere that pagination is pointless if you have a static site and are not making requests to a database, thought “oh yeah fair point” and put them ALL there. Has a nice side effect of being able to just cmd/ctrl+F to search the titles.

sarajw,
@sarajw@front-end.social avatar

@matthiasott my "home" is almost everything!

https://sarajoy.dev

It was a cool gimmick, but the longer the "cards" get, the less well it all works, really....

olav,
@olav@theweird.space avatar

@sarajw
@matthiasott

I feel like an underachiever lol.

sarajw,
@sarajw@front-end.social avatar

@olav @matthiasott please don't! When I came up with this and iterated to get it to how it is now, I had a lot more time on my hands..

timsev,
@timsev@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott Without getting too existential here: I don’t enjoy being in the spotlight and my site reflects that. I don’t write for recognition, I write to serve myself and others. So the prominent list of blog posts is a very deliberate design decision.

Anyway, as always, I should publish more 😅

heracles,
@heracles@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott A short first person bio, so that people looking for me online can get an idea of what I do and used to do, where to contact me, then my texts (things I write), and objects (things I make).

seindal,
@seindal@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott Random ramblings about wordpress, koha, mail-in-a-box, cookies, whatever.

It's an irregular blog I've used intermittently since the late twentieth century.
