Don't get me wrong, the #instance thing matters. People didn't know what instances on #mastodon would welcome newcomers. It wasn't that "what the hell is an instance" confused them, but some of them ended up in the wrong neighborhood.

I think if people really want more of their friends in the #Fediverse we're going to need to establish a list of ambassador instances, instances that are stable and friendly to newcomers.

That last boost was me finally figuring out why comparison between our rudimentary AI and the human mind is so fucking infuriating.

Because using the art and writing of online creatives without their permission and without payment is pure exploitation. They are exploiting living authors, living artists, living performers to create a machine that will replace those very people.

And a bunch of AI-defenders are comparing the output of that machine to the blood sweat and tears of those exploited workers, arguing that legal protections being EXTENDED to those workers would HURT them. These guys are living in a sci-fantasyland.
