Love that the welcome speech at has called out that the Q&A section is not the time for an audience member to show how clever they are.

Mini-me had another seizure, not a full blown one but she flung herself out of her bed. She’s with paramedics waiting to be admitted and it looks like a 12+ hour wait to see someone. Canadians have failed to apply enough pressure to politicians to make our healthcare useful. :(

@grmpyprogrammer oh no :(
Hopefully the healthcare people will be able to help her.

Thought provoking keynote by @kevlin this morning on our use of language around Technical Debt and how that affects the way we think about this code.

Yesterday, I took some photos at the Severn Valley Railway. I find that being out about taking photos is a great way to relax. #photography #Fujifilm #XH2 #railway #SteamTrain

[obligatory "the new Slack lefthand panel is significantly less useful than the workspace selector and I want the workspace selector back" post]

Srsly, is there some huge % of Slack users who only have one workspace, such that this is an upgrade? 'cuz...just...no.

@kboyd @ian
At this stage, I’m doing better with Discord than I am with Slack.

Totally agree on wanting integration with focus mode though.

Not being able to see at a glance which other Slack teams have unread messages is a big miss in the new Slack redesign.

To give you an idea of how long this project has been profitable for my client, I'm currently migrating away from Phing.

Long term successful projects are my thing.

@m1ke The good old days, that is still done in certain places…

In whichever text editor you use, please ensure that you enable the option saves a new line to the end of every file.

It makes text files that much easier to work with on the command line.

In VSCode, it's the "Files: Insert Final Newline" setting. In JetBrains editors, it's "Ensure every saved file ends with a line break"

The cab drivers in Montreal have to have their cab inspected like twice a year. During my time in MTL I had a few of them tell me they'd deliberately avoid fixing issues with their car if they had an inspection soon, as the inspectors always found something.

I've had an afternoon of reading SOC 2 reports... and I kinda get that vibe. If the entire report is "no exceptions noted" I just assume the auditor wasn't trying that hard.

rob,
@rob@akrabat.com avatar

@preinheimer Maybe, but I worked really hard for 6 months to get our SOC 2 report with “no exceptions noted”. Took a massive amount of effort and attention to detail. The inspector asked loads of questions and seemed quite thorough asking for clarification on several points to ensure that we all understood what was being asked for and that our process met the requirement.

rob,
@rob@akrabat.com avatar

@preinheimer Type 2. Small company though & I can see that it’d get more complicated for bigger companies.

The new UI so far is mostly confusing. Perhaps it takes some time to get used to, but it also behaves weirdly (or buggy)

rob,
@rob@akrabat.com avatar

@Skoop I turned it off when it first appeared. I'll let others work through the bugs.
