I'm super stoked about the recent announcement. Ideal recruitment opportunity and have bigged it up on the other site. Let's see if it generates an influx of new users + donations ๐Ÿคž Huge credit to @kev + team for being democratic and asking the community. Happy to moderate in En a Es, when I get more time!

Prepparing materials for @opengeohub 2023 and just added this to my slides. It's been there for over a year but still find the automatic handling of spherical geometry in {sf} amazing. If you're always transforming from geographic projection (e.g. EPSG:4326) to projected (e.g. EPSG:27700 in the UK) and new to this will blow your mind ๐Ÿคฏ

This is magic, and auto installed in seconds on GitHub Actions, which runs all the code in the literate programming system Quarto, renders the results, and deploys them. Technology for reproducible research has come a long way over last decade, and it's accelerating ๐Ÿš€

Ever wanted to do spatial clustering of orign-destination (OD) data? Well you may want to now! University of Leeds Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) and Alan Turing Institute PhD student Hussein Mahfouz has created this early-stage visualisation of spatial clustering of these zone-zone flows ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Case study of . Reading a bit of old school literature for once. There be wisdom in these here words: "Probably the whole of Newtonโ€™s controversy with Leibniz, which ruined English mathematics for over a hundred years, would have been avoided if Newton had been robust and able to enjoy ordinary pleasures." Ouch ๐Ÿ˜… bonus points to anyone who can guess author without looking it up : )

So true! For this reason the Transport Data Science module I lead focusses on applications, taking the initiative (you choose the topic you apply the science to and datasets), and empirical exploration. Written for early programmers but equally applicable now

Git and GitHub are key tools for sharing your work reproducibility and the greater good ๐ŸŒฑ However they are often seen as too 'hardcore' or developer-focussed to be used by researchers and data analysts. That's a misconception! Great vid to get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Dd7KRpKeaE

So many rewarding things about building in the open. One of the biggest is the sense of "Wow I did it" you feel when new contributors get involved. I remember the first time I contributed to an open source project and it felt amazing, built by the community, for the community.
