@wjmaggos @mike @molly0xfff this P2P decentralised money already exists. They are called micropayment SATs sent over the lightning wallet. Many new Podcasting 2.0 apps already use it to reward creators. There is a new economic model that goes hand in hand called Value 4 Value. - https://value4value.info/

@Hyolobrika @wjmaggos advertising in podcasting sucks and so do subscriptions. A direct way for fans to reward content creators is needed. Fiat currency payment gateways won't work. So new digital micropayments are one solution being put forward.

this post is very true and not many people are taking it under consideration because "pornstar"

@NataliaArmyOf1 this is not consensual, he sounds like Weinstein. And you know it's not the first time he used that line. Trump is a sexual predator and I wish the other women would come forward. Unfortunately, they won't for reputational reasons and fear of retribution.

@adam @dave I agree with Adam’s plight that the biggest obstacle for streaming Sats is: an easy way to buy Sats.
In the EU we don’t have strike, or stripe, or whatever it’s called. Other services are atrocious in usability and shut down certain functionality once you’re in their ecosystem like BlueWallet. I’ve been a man overboard for months now, just because I can’t figure it out and can’t be bothered to try the dozen possible shady apps. Money and showing appreciation is about trust.

@sirpeet @adam @dave Have you tried the one click Fiat < > Sats we implemented in TrueFans. Go to settings > wallet and you can top up your wallet using Apple/Google Pay. We are building on this. So next week you will be able to cash out SATs to Fiat in the same way. You will also be able to buy music or audiobooks on TrueFans either in Fiat or SATs.

When I first heard Elon Musk was going to charge newbies on X, like most I thought well that's the end of X.

  • Pay to post
  • Pay to reply
  • Pay to like

But then I thought isn't that exactly what Podcasting 2.0 is trying to encourage users to do?

  • Pay to stream
  • Pay to boost
  • Pay to zap

If Elon can (re)introduce micropayments to X for the payments and give everyone a wallet then maybe he is helping train the mass market to pay for content creators.

@james @chris @chrismessina

I agree James today X will keep the money as a deterrent to bots but tomorrow they could pass through that money to creators.

We know Jack Dorsey left a complete micropayment platform with links to cash app.

@samsethi It looks like TrueFans should be up and running with cross-app comments/social interact. I've been looking at No Agenda because I hear that they get a lot of comments and I can't, for the life of me, find the comments (or even a link to the root post) in TrueFans.

I must be super dense.. Can you help a brother out and tell me where I should go to see what this looks like in TrueFans?

samsethi,
@samsethi@podcastindex.social avatar

1/3 @bdentzy We are working on publishing various activity verbs from the users activitystream.

For example Bryan (actor) played (verb) No Agenda (object) for 38mins and paid §250 sats.

That would be a single Activity entry with the play verb.

To begin with we will enable users to share the boost verb to their own ActivtyPub client so others can see their boost. We will also share it to the Social Interact Post. Below is the Social Interact Tag location for Podcasting 2.0

samsethi,
@samsethi@podcastindex.social avatar

2/3 @bdentzy Right now there is no social interact tag for No Agenda. Equally the goal of publishing users activity to Mastodon or other AP clients is just a discussion. We are starting to code this up but don't expect anything soon. Maybe next we will have part 1 done. So you can publish to the social interact tag and your AP profile. Then we need the other apps to do the same. Then we can build a listener app to the social interact tag.

samsethi,
@samsethi@podcastindex.social avatar

3/3 @bdentzy So someone listening to No Agenda on Fountain or Podverse does a boost and also publishes this activity to the shared Social Interact Post for the specific episode. Now TrueFans can pull in the Fountain comment/boost and display it next to any boosts made natively in TrueFans.

This is how we think we can get Cross App comments. But what we are developing is more powerful than just Cross App comments. Stay tuned nothing to see there yet.

@adam @bdentzy my bad looked in the Live Item Tag and there was no URL but didn't check the episode. Either way right now we are not sending comments to this URL but that is the plan

Listening to the board meeting with @adam and @dave - it seems to me that there’s nothing wrong with a minimum value for some content like courses. That’s a little different to a podcast. But, I’d suggest that the minimum value is $0.00000001 - ie that you don’t set a minimum value other than expect some. That’s fair for a course - but I’d suggest wouldn’t work for No Agenda or similar. (…)

samsethi,
@samsethi@podcastindex.social avatar

@james @adam @dave I think I understand V4V. The creator sets a default value and the listener can choose to accept it or change it or even pay zero.

However talking to musicians, audiobook creators, film makers and people selling courses they have asked for a minimum value option. It's their content and they want to value it. They also want to ensure it is not undervalued.

So listeners can pay more but not less or they don't get to listen.
