@25kV I think because quickconnect links involve an intermediate step where Synology fetches your current server IP address based on the last time your server checked in and redirects to it. It probably has handling for your server being down / unavailable, too, to verify it’s running. I expect you’d need an actual fixed URL / IP address to have it work without that.

Explained enshittification to my therapist and he remarked on how closely the phases seemed to mirror peoples’ relationships to their jobs — start out passionate about the mission (focus on users), then move to focusing on their position within the company (focus on customers), then hanging on for money/stock (clawing back value), then they go numb and / or quit.

@jonny I would settle for a pill that would make me able to drink gluten free beer again. I’m not celiac, but Long Covid left me so sensitive that most GF beer has too high a concentration.

California has some brands of corn-brewed beer that I’m excited to get my hands on when we move back from Ireland in a few months.

Walked 7.5 miles and climbed 50 flights up Mount Dublin today. Our first hike with the baby (who napped the whole time in a carrier) and my first big hike since I got long COVID in September 2022. We’ve done 24 miles in the last 3 days and 6+ miles each of the two days before that.

Hard to express how happy I felt getting back out and doing that kind of exercise without having to worry that I wouldn’t be able to make it.

@sarajw I carried the food/water and some camera gear, but my wife carried the baby the whole time. She likes to say she’s been slowly building up to it for almost a year now, but it’s still incredibly impressive.

TIL that loading Google Fonts directly from Google without a cookie banner is a GDPR violation. Time to go make some quick fixes to my @eleventy sites that were using this. Hosting them locally sidesteps the issue.

My new title is “Our Websites Need a Lifestyle Change, Not a Diet”

It’ll be a similar focus on the Web Platform to my perfnow talk but I’m gonna go a little deeper on INP and convincing people perf is a problem, given the audience is more of a broad spread of specialisms.

It’ll be interesting to see the impact on tech companies of the last few years. Massive layoffs and desperate job seekers means that the odds are far lower that the people you hired care at all about your company or product. They’re passionate about getting a paycheck. With hundreds of applicants per job listing, it’s impossible to look at every resume, so you aren’t even getting the best people who applied, just the first across a threshold.

My wife and I have used Microsoft Todo for years as a way to have shared, cloud-synced Todo lists. It worked extremely well for many years.

In the last month or two, though, the whole app takes seconds to boot up every time we load it -- like it has to do a full restart. I'm guessing someone added some kind of config-flag-fetch step that's blocking initial render?

Either way, we're in the market for a new Todo app, because this one takes too long to use now. Anyone have any recommendations?
