Finally being able to merge together two data sources after a long long data wrangling process feels sooooo satisfying.

I must admit. I was dancing.

Now I can move on to the visualization part of the project!

Finally!

Looking forward to sharing this data driven visual experiment soon :)

ChatGPT just taught me something incredible:
You can do font-size: 1.2vw instead of the messy @media@mastodon.social screen and (max-width: 768px) {

Changing the vw results in larger or smaller font based on screen size! What else would you use this for?

@nfoert @keithjgrant

Or just use utopia.fyi and stop worrying about it :)

Ok, shit. I ordered GoGo Penguin’s v2.0 on vinyl and it arrived and it’s so damn gorgeous that I now fear for all the money I will spend on vinyl …

But it’s ok – this is a great way to support the artists and, really, what would we do without them! 🤘

@peter

Absolutely agree: supporting these artists is so important!

I would not want to live in a world without music. And I'm so happy when I find that new music is still being made that blows my mind.

Ok, does anyone have a charting library they like that's relatively small and doesn't require shipping an entire JS frontend to work?

seblammers,
@seblammers@vis.social avatar

@brianb

If you use and you get the power of the gold standard dataviz toolkit for the web while only shipping the code that the project at hand needs.

This combination is becoming the standard around the world in newsrooms (Der Spiegel, New York Times,...) and independent publishing venues for dataviz and visual storytelling (like The Pudding).

Wow, they made a great job explaining this abstract concept and illustrating their examples along the way!

This song is perfect:

https://matthewhalsall.bandcamp.com/track/water-street

Rarely do I really love song when I first hear it. Most of the time I need a few rounds of listening to really get into it and then I discover all the beauty.

This is different. It just clicked with me. It's uplifting, calm, yet driven. Repetitive but still playful.

Just beautiful.

NEW POST: A profile of the contemporary data visualisation technology landscape.

https://visualisingdata.com/2023/06/data-visualisation-technology-landscape/

Includes my brand new and updated catalogue of data visualisation resources, listing and (roughly) categorising 300+ tools, applications, libraries, frameworks and utilities for making visualisations.

Also gives renewed attention to my Chartmaker Directory, with plenty of content updates, which provides some answers to the question: what tools can make which charts, and how.

@andykirk Thank you for creating, updating and sharing this Andy!

It’s Day.

One of the most well-known visualization of our days.

We took a deep dive:

  • The three people who created it.
  • Why it uses 1971-2000 as the reference
  • How the colours were chosen

And more.

I find the Internet Archive a never-ending source of significant content.
And there even is a continually curated, easier-to-browse collection of graphic design related items that are available there.
Hooray!

@florin Yes, same for me. I knew the popular ones that were also replicated digitally in the past couple of years, but there are so many more great charts/graphics/ideas in there!

I love the project by @duncangeere Duncan Geere & Miriam Quick.

It's aptly called Loud Numbers and you can learn all about it here:

In particular, I love the sweet and short podcast episodes they have produced about some of their sonifications: https://www.loudnumbers.net/podcast

I finally pushed myself and published my personal website:

https://sebastianlammers.com/

It's where I experiment with all things web, like #html #css #javascript esp. #svelte and #svg most often in the context of #dataviz or similar forms of visual storytelling.

I have also put my first blog post up, where I share some notes on #dataWrangling in javascript:

It's a multipart post aimed to be very beginner friendly.

Enjoy!
