Writing code since the 70s. Writing code for a living since the early 80s.
I just barely feel like I can call myself a “software engineer” now.

Profile picture is my dad circa 1930 in a homburg hat.

It still tickles me that the TERFS and Transphobes tried to claim Terry Pratchett as their own, and everyone who actually knew him, including his daughter, and co-author Neil Gaiman, was like WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, you couldn't be further from the truth.

@RickiTarr I guess none of them have read Monstrous Regiment.

@RickiTarr On that note, everyone should listen to this:

Shaun on YouTube does some great long-form essays, and is especially sympathetic to trans issues.

@GovTrack How nice to see a republican creating legislation for real problems instead of engaging in performative nonsense.

@nixCraft My boss and juniors at are all gushing over it. Say I MUST use it.
The first problem I give it, the answer is dead wrong. After telling it why it was wrong. It gives ANOTHER wrong answer. Lather, rinse, repeat. It never can up with a working solution.
Plus, it’s stealing mediocre code. Don’t expect anything decent from it.

Florida-Bound Biden Faces Calls to Declare Climate Emergency After Hurricane Idalia

"I don't think anybody can deny the impact of the climate crisis anymore," the president said in a Wednesday speech about the hurricane response and wildfire recovery efforts in Maui. "Just look around: historic floods—I mean historic floods; more intense droughts; extreme heat; significant wildfires have caused significant damage like we've never seen before."

@GW Nitpicking, I know, but “significant” wildfires? He couldn’t come up with a better adjective? A campfire could be said to be “significant”
Attached image is a NASA FIRMS map showing widespread catastrophic wildfires in the western US and Canada.

@Green_Footballs Had to read way too far into the article before seeing that the Prosecraft data was generated from pirated books. Smith knew this, and had no reason to be surprised at the backlash.
Why not generate the initial data from out-of-copyright material, say, from the Gutenberg Project (I AM NOT A LAWYER!), if he wanted to show the value of the information before asking for authors to voluntarily submit their work?
