I do programming theatre. The 0.1X engineer. He/Him. Ferris is my spirit animal. I tend to work on rust iOS stuff for fun.

https://www.meetup.com/triangle-devs/events/300070845/ I'm gonna talk about Rust iOS stuff at a meetup in Durham, NC on Thursday. Come on out if you're near!

@janriemer Every few years I find my self in a situation where it's a "distributed problem" when it just doesn't need to be and this paper comes to mind. I'm glad you liked it.

It's feels a little weird to be annoyed with the etiquette on open source projects as it's free software. But, this crate has 8.3m downloads and the owner just decided to archive the repo? Defined the thing as unmaintained with no discussion? https://github.com/dtolnay/serde-yaml/releases/tag/0.9.34

I wish there was a nice way in to find the other side of a given std::sync::mpsc::channel (or tokio equivalent). This project I'm working on has a ton channels and I'm missing a message on a recv end but dunno where send is in my codebase bacause there are so many.

@janriemer Yup, the "Show references" feature of rust-analyzer is the flow I'm using. If I could have my cake and eat it to, I'd have something like a "Show Deep References" but I know that rust-analyzer doesn't have such a feature.

@janriemer I suppose I should learn how to use tracing well enough to help me with this type of thing. I tried out FireDBG (https://firedbg.sea-ql.org/) today hoping it'd have some help. A cool project but doesn't help with this problem.

@janriemer I'd author a github issue to the rust-analyzer repo for such a feature as it's both a cool problem and would be very helpful but I don't know the terminology well enough. Maybe I'll ask about it in the zulip.

Every time I do the State of Rust survey, I find that I just don't know as well as I thought I did.

@bitprophet I use the nightly compiler daily (building for tvOS, watchOS) yet don't know many of the nightly features (and so I don't have much of an opinion about their priority).

Are there are any Rust web frameworks (even toy ones) that use blocking I/O?

@timClicks I think iron. Unclear if it’s maintained these days.

I've seen Oppenheimer in IMAX, and I'm disappointed.

The picture may have been super sharp, but that didn't really add anything to the experience. OTOH the projection had noticeably poor black level, and a standard dynamic range — like an average LCD TV.
Good OLED TVs can do better IMHO.

@kornel supposedly 70mm IMAX theaters are really having a tough time playing Oppenheimer. Like having to fly specialists out from LA and such to fix and operate the machines.

Only in San Francisco is it possible for somebody to recognize me on the street as an ex-npm person.

@seldo I’m pretty sure I walked by geohottz in the haight in 2020 on some sort of covid first date. What I over heard him saying was “I’m no anti vaxxer but…” and then I was out of ear shot.
