Windows 11 Pro is $259 CAD. I know I know it is still cheaper than a set of wheels for a Mac Pro but for personal use that is still a LOT of money.

How does an independent nerd like myself, not a pro business enterprise user, get a Windows 11 Pro license for say .. under $50? Is that possible?

The only thing I found is kinguin.net .. but can I trust that? It looks ... sketchy …

New in iTerm 3.5:

"Using OpenAI's ChatGPT API, iTerm2 can now write commands for you, interpret the output of commands, and guide you towards a goal. See the AI section below for details."

Yes I know it is optional .. but damn .. the AI-enshitification is happening everywhere.

Time to switch to a terminal that just does one thing well .. being a terminal.

Kitty? Alacritty? What do you use?

iPad Pro with M4 looks fantastic. Too bad that shitty APIs and App Store rules limit all the potential this beast of a tablet has.

Still no virtualization, proper background tasks (keep an SSH session running…), App Store rules that simply don’t allow the most interesting kind of apps.

Blah.

Can anyone recommend a Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet adapter for a MacBook Pro? Ideally one that also works in Linux.

Anyone from 1Password here? I have frequent DNS issues with 1Password services. In this case cache.agilebits.com but also often with the op command that cannot resolve the API endpoint.

Does anyone know a good 1Password CLI alternative (the op command) that works with the Keychain instead? Or alternatively with something like gopass?

Key is that op run works (with substitution of env vars) and that it is hooked up to TouchID.

The fact that we have to talk about a “Nazi-free alternative to $PRODUCT" is kind of bizarre.

You would think that being Nazi-free is actually a pretty low bar for any kind of product or service, real or online, that doesn't want to be a platform for fascists and doesn't want to be associated with people who's ideology killed millions of people less than a century ago.

A simple "fuck off nazis you are not welcome here" in your TOS is really nothing to be ashamed about and not controversial.

In Rust I cargo new my-program and in Go I go mod init github.com/st3fan/some-tool. And then I start typing in main.go or main.rs and can build or test.

In 2023, what do I do in Python? I'm lost in the many different tools available. What is the most frictionless way to get a new project going.

Some ideas for Firefox for iOS:

  1. Integrate with Apple's network relays
  2. Good Spotlight support
  3. Sync to iCloud instead of Firefox Sync
  4. Something for Device Management to make FIrefox the number one choice for enterprises to use
  5. Robust and resumable file transfers (downloads)
  6. Shortcuts for Spotlight
  7. "Speak this web page” (Speech Synthesis)
