Academics: FYI if you refer to your own papers in a paper, you should anonymise those references. I've just accidentally unblinded the paper I'm supposed to be reviewing and while I don't have any conflict of interest it's not how this is supposed to work! @academicchatter
@CatherineFlick@academicchatter I've also heard the opposite advice: don't blind your references, so that they look 'normal'. Pointing out that something is your work helps to identify you, if the area you work in is highly specialised.

An der Uni Erfurt sind derzeit zwei Geschichstprofessuren als W2 TT W3 ausgeschrieben. Sprich: Eine promovierte und habilitierte Person bekommt eine Professur, muss sich dann nochmal fünf Jahre beweisen und wird dann ggf. wieder auf die Straße gesetzt. Warum geht man so mit qualifiziertem Personal um, das zum Zeitpunkt der Berufung bereits geschätzt 15 Jahre prekäre Beschäftigung hinter sich hat? #IchBinHanna
@davi_cath in Saarbrücken gleiche Konstruktion für eine Professur in Digital Humanities. Dort darf man dann in den sechs Jahren noch ein Zentrum für DH aufbauen.
Es kommen ja dauernd Leute an, die ganz genau wissen, dass die Menschheit durch den Klimawandel hundert pro ausstirbt oder halt ganz sicher nicht.
Das ist Quatsch.
Warum? Weil wir praktisch nichts darüber wissen, wie Aussterben funktioniert. Dieser Artikel klärt immerhin einen interessanten Punkt, nämlich dass ein Umweltfaktor systematisch Organismen mit bestimmten Eigenschaften begünstigt und benachteiligt.
Nur: eine ganz zentrale Frage ist weiter offen...

Mit ein wenig Abstand zum #wisszeitvg Debakel: in Zukunft wird es einfach kaum noch drittmitelfreie Forschung an Unis und FHs von Promovierten geben. Prof:innen haben dafür schlicht keine Zeit und denen, die sich weiter qualifizieren wollen/müssen, wird dazu in Zukunft keine Zeit mehr eingeräumt. 1/
Wäre man ein böser Mensch, könnte man glatt denken, dass das durchaus im Sinne der Politik ist: Forschungszeit wird schließlich auch bezahlt. Warum soll das nicht im "Wettbewerb der besten Ideen" geschehen? Durchgriffsmöglichkeiten der Politik sind so jedenfalls höher. 2/2
We’ve talked about not finishing books, which I have no problem doing. There are some books, that I know I will give another shot at some point. This is one such book. I’m thinking I stopped b/c something else grabbed my attention or was more pressing (ie. library book, etc-which is actually a poor excuse b/c I always have library books in).
Is it possible to text with other people using different messengers? You can use iOS iMessage with SMS and iMessage. But here I’m looking for communicating with a friend like this: he would use Signal and I stick with iMessage?
Reason: I don’t own a smartphone, my iPad has no SIM card, so Signal isn’t possible on my side. We already agreed on not using WhatsApp. Any other suggestions for iOS?

Someone around 1800, I guess, liked very much to cut out and collect #earlymodern woodcuts, in fact hundreds of them, many hundreds, and glued these prints into a new volume. For #bookhistory experts, such collections are both fun and horror - and potential future work. There is no commentary, dear #histodons.
