❌ Please absolutely DO NOT buy some ultra-cheap Black Friday deal telescope from Amazon or Walmart. (These are all utter shit and unusable and will ruin the hobby for you or your kids.)

🌌 The best thing to do is to go to a star party and try out telescopes!

🔭 The second best thing is to buy a pair of good quality beginner binoculars, those run around $100-$150 (e.g. https://oberwerk.com/product/8x56mm-lightweight-binoculars/)

did a fun exercise with a vim-using friend where we went through the alphabet (abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.'@^$%”) and compared which vim commands each of use

these were my results, unsurprisingly each of us had a slightly different set of commands we use and both of us learned some new tricks

The main reason Mastodon feels boring as fuck to many people coming over from Twitter is that the culture doesn’t revolve around community and topics of the day, but mostly about a lot of meta talk about Mastodon, like this toot.

Just thinking about my high school photography class where we spent a lot of time on camera mechanics, f stops, shutter speed, etc. And talked about the rule of thirds for a few minutes then was graded on the roll of film I was able to actually shoot.

Not a great experience, don’t recommend.
