@haui_lemmy
in general, i hope that federation issues between all the different fedi platforms will be solved to some extent - e.g. interactions between lemmy and the *keys (misskey plus the whole set of forks) are practically non-existent > our conversation is an exception
never used reddit, but i like my kbin alt acc very much
xitter never really was my thing, neither masto or pleroma > but when xitter migration sped up last year, i thought that finally something is happening on the fedi, so i signed up at a calckey instance (and later, i got many more accs on other fedi platforms)
discord? no > matrix? no
yt: i use alternative frontends, but certainly not peertube
@lavender
i love both lemmy and kbin, with a clear preference for the latter for many reasons
while i think that it is good to keep in mind that lemmy lead dev dessalines is in fact a tankie, we should be glad that lemmy does exist at all - lemmy is bearing the brunt of the recent reddit migration to the fediverse, and kbin benefits from this situation
also i am glad that kbin mastermind ernest wants to keep kbin as compatible to lemmy as possible
in many ways, the reddit migration is of different nature compared to the twitter migration last year: users can choose between two different platforms catering to their needs, rather than overwhelmingly depending on one platform only, as in the case of mastodon #fediverse#kbin#lemmy#mastodon
@cendawanita
you are right, and i step away from boldly claiming that kbin were a pretty straight forward experience: no, it obviously is not, even less so if you may never have even heard of reddit, of threaded posts, or rss/atom, not to mention tricky differences between articles and posts on kbin
kbin has a learning curve to it, but it is really rewarding!
compared to kbin, lemmy is super easy to understand: you follow a lemmy community, tag it, and that's it - but lemmy will break your timeline! each post submitted to a lemmy community will be boosted twice (2x)! this is far from happy fedi life, and shit no, i do not want this!
kbin has a very different approach, and while it may happen that you would not check what's going on at a kbin mag all the time, you would give it a glimpse once in a while, which makes kbin a relaxed affair and a great archive, of course ❤️
rss feeds are readily available for kbin, making it easy to follow what's going on even if you are not logged in to kbin.social
i use rss all the time, so things were all too clear to me, and i did not give it a second thought when kbin would not spam my timeline, and i was just fine with it
the rss feed will deliver all threads posted to magASEAN, but not microblog posts > once again: i am fine with it, because kbin does not spam my timeline, unlike a.gup.pe, chirp.social or friendica groups, let alone lemmy!
caveat: be aware that the rss feed is case-sensitive - it must be magASEAN! if you are using firefox: firefox auto-corrects case-sensitive urls > to heal this, go directly into the adress bar and type magASEAN manually
