Rishi apparently delaying his announcement because it’s a bit rainy. Surely some minion could hold an umbrella over him?

@andycarolan Yes, like the credits on The Flintstones 🤣

A late entry into the "what do you call dandelion seed heads" discussion, another from Scotland.

HAIRY MEN

I had 3 responses, in this order.

  1. Smutty. "But, but, it's all about blowing them!" 😮

  2. Sensible. "Oh, on reflection that's quite similar to the Spanish grandpa really. It's just bearded." 🧔

  3. Silly. "It should look like the Scottish gonk I bought as a holiday souvenir from the Highlands when I was little." 👀

Anyway. I made number 3. Sorry.

@eclectech Do you still have the gonk ?

@eclectech amazing! I wish I’d kept more of my childhood tat.

@eclectech I particularly regret parting with a velour-covered plastic squirrel, which had a real fur tail.

@eclectech It was amazing tat. I chose it as a reward for getting some sort of swimming badge. I think I decided it wasn’t cool in my teens. Teen me was an idiot.

Guess what, the visit from the social worker was FINE 🙄 We agreed she doesn’t need to see me again, the issue is not depression anymore but anxiety, confidence, feeling differently about myself and what I want to do with my life. Seeing a uni counsellor tomorrow for that stuff

@purplepadma I hope they can help you to find a way through.

Finished "Translation State" by Ann Leckie, a nominee for Best Science Fiction for Goodreads in 2023.

I came into it without having any knowledge of the Imperial Radch trilogy and it works as a standalone book. It's a bit of a space opera, a bit of a fairly predictable & angsty love story, and a bit of political intrigue. It's kind of a bit of everything and I think that's why I liked it but didn't love it. 4/5 stars.

@mlawton Would definitely recommend the Ancillary series, I’m just re-reading them after finishing Translation State.

This is a bit of a first world problem I know, but let me whinge. I used the last of my preferred type of dental floss this morning, and I when I went to order some more a little while ago, I found out that it has changed and is quite different. So now I have to look for new dental floss, and I'm not looking forward to this, as there's so many types of floss that make my teeth feel weird in different ways.

thebaywindowgirl,

@sheepnik @alexisbushnell Have you tried the teeny interdental brushes? I struggle with floss, and my hygienist recommended them as a alternative.

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@sheepnik @alexisbushnell the hygienist told me they’re gentler on the gums than floss. I have an irrational fear of floss snapping and getting stuck between my teeth, so I find them much less stressful to use!

I don’t want to jinx it, but this morning I think I feel… better?

thebaywindowgirl,

@purplepadma That is good, long may it continue. Definitely don’t jeopardise it by doing anything you don’t feel comfortable with.

Do you prefer your battles to use…?

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@purplepadma I find fight scenes incredibly tedious, both on screen and in books. Sorcery all the way for me.

Heads up that the excellent fantasy novel I am reading, Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erickson, is 99p on Kindle at the moment. Big recommend

@purplepadma is it very fighty? The write up on Amazon makes it sound fighty.
