Do you prefer your battles to use…?

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@purplepadma I find fight scenes incredibly tedious, both on screen and in books. Sorcery all the way for me.

Heads up that the excellent fantasy novel I am reading, Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erickson, is 99p on Kindle at the moment. Big recommend

@purplepadma is it very fighty? The write up on Amazon makes it sound fighty.

Morning. Miss Cinnamon didn’t come home last night. Tom slept downstairs to listen out for her, but nothing. I’m very anxious.

@purplepadma fingers crossed she strolls in very soon.

Ancrum Arts - 4 years on

We acquired this steel woodpecker 4 years ago (or maybe 5) at Ancrum. It occupies a half trunk alongside the Borders Abbey Way which runs through our ‘garden’ (wild wild woods). It has weathered very nicely on both sides and is frequently commented on - which is probably because while we have two pairs of woodies in the woods, they are easy to hear and difficult to see.

@Wen That's a very beautiful thing. I had plans to walk a section of the Border Abbeys Way last year, but it never happened. Maybe this year.

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@Wen My plan was to drive up to Kelso then get a bus to St Boswells and walk back to Kelso. I may seek your advice about buses if/when I do it!

Morning everyone. I think another day of gardening is in store today. There's just so much to do - plus, I'm behind on a bunch of things I would normally have done in April, because it was cold and wet and they didn't get done.

Earworm this morning, because of something I read when scrolling back my mastodon feed, is I Want To Be In The Mafia by BC Camplight.

@RolloTreadway Morning Rollo, and happy gardening. We actually have sunshine here at the moment, hope it’s shining on you too.

If I was on the news covering the election results, I would simply stand up and shout "STOP! You've said all of the words. It's DONE!"

I just think at some point you have to recognise all of the words have been said and anything further would be devoid of meaning. From that point on, anyone that says 'deliver/ed/ing' should have to go to prison.

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@TheBreadmonkey @purplepadma I just had to look up TWOC, which apparently means Trial Without Catheter, and now I’m very confused.

In the Spanish deli cafe hiding from the chatty cleaners. Too much of a strain to engage today. I’m the only person in here which is perfect, and the waitress knows my order without me saying a word. NO RHUBARB TO BE FOUND IN TOWN

thebaywindowgirl,

@purplepadma I don’t know if it’s all thevrain, but rhubarb seems to be really scarce this year.

Hi, I’m up after 13 hours of sleep but too depressed to communicate effectively. I see lots of lovely supportive messages and I really appreciate them. I’ll try and respond later. Thanks, everyone

Jealous of all your cats. Why can't I have a cat? Or a dog. Or a chinchilla, whatever. No fair.

@eclectech @RolloTreadway I think a similar thing was mooted for England and Wales, but the Tory landlord MPs in Westminster have pissed all over the Renters’ Reform Bill.

Things I could do this coming week:

  1. Take the bus to the seaside and walk on the beach
  2. Take the bus to Biggertown and browse the charity shops
  3. Running
  4. Start my tapestry kit
  5. Follow a new path out to the woods
    Must try not to just lie in bed plotting my own demise

@purplepadma Did you make any headway with your jigsaw?

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@purplepadma I’m sorry, but that did make me laugh. Hope you get on better with the tapestry. I have one that I do when visiting my mother, to distract me from her monologues.

thebaywindowgirl,

@purplepadma Mine is a hare too, it’s a William Morris design. I do find tapestrying quite meditative.

Mowed the stupid lawn. Another good thing about getting rid of that lawn, if I could do so, would be that it might stop people letting their dog shit on it.

Why would you let your dog shit on someone's lawn anyway? And not pick it up? The fuck is wrong with some dog owners?

I love dogs, I've had dogs in the past, I wouldn't dream of letting one shit on someone's lawn.

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@purplepadma @sheepnik @RolloTreadway And why do some of them make the effort to put the shit in a bag, then hang in in a tree or hedge. Wtf is going through their heads when they do that? I took a dog out for a walk in the country the other day, she did a shit, I bagged it and carried it home, where I put it in the bin. It’s not hard.

Apologies for the running commentary on tedious mansplainer last night, it was a long train journey. I was actually in London to see a John Singer Sargent exhibition at Tate Britain, and it was spectacularly lovely, especially where they also had the dresses in the portraits on display beside the paintings.

Colour photograph of a portrait of Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth by Sargent. She is dresses in a long blue green dress, and hold a crown above her head.
Colour photograph of the dress from the portrait in the previous portrait. It is green, with huge bell sleeves, and a red velvet cloak worn over the top.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/apr/27/work-and-pensions-committee-chair-tells-ministers-to-fix-carers-allowance-issues

' “The government defends the mean-spirited rules which penalise carers’ earnings beyond £151 a week... then criminalise carers for any overpayments of carer’s allowance. Given HMRC have the earnings data, why don’t they [DWP] just write to carers if they think they’ve accidentally gone over the earnings limit?” '

'Timms called for the carer’s allowance earnings limit to be increased in line with the national minimum wage after it was in effect frozen five years ago...'

thebaywindowgirl,
@thebaywindowgirl@toot.community avatar

@TalktoBeverley How far would £81.90 get you in a care home? Absolutely nowhere. These people are saving the nhs and councils millions by caring for their relatives at home, and they deserve better.
