Still looking for somebody to help me build a tool.

I'm considering shutting down my twitter and bluesky without it. Who's can help me out?

@erikKroes Now that my personal life has quieted down, I’m happy to give this a go. This could be a fun little open-source project

By the way, do you have a personal website and does it have a home page? (I’m pretty sure it does… 😁)

I would love to know: what’s on your “home” and why?

Feel free to share a link, of course. 🤗 As always, I’m also asking on behalf of my newsletter subscribers.

timsev,
@timsev@mastodon.social avatar

@matthiasott Without getting too existential here: I don’t enjoy being in the spotlight and my site reflects that. I don’t write for recognition, I write to serve myself and others. So the prominent list of blog posts is a very deliberate design decision.

Anyway, as always, I should publish more 😅

@belldotbz Honestly don’t know what browser I could switch to anymore. It’s either Chromium-based, AI or crypto bollocks, a random VC-funded company that’ll never become profitable, or a platform-specific browser that wants to drag us into their closed ecosystem.

What’s left?

Do you have a on your site? Or did you come across a fantastic example on someone else’s website?

Let me know the URL below! 🙌

I have not used the Vision Pro. I’m still allowed to have an opinion. I’ve owned seven different augmented, mixed, and virtual reality headsets. From HoloLens to Vive, three quests, Xreal, etc. I feel more than qualified to offer an opinion as we wait to try them for ourselves. I’m all in on the Apple ecosystem, but I’m still shocked at how defensive people are of this billion dollar company. Let the products defend themselves.

timsev,
@timsev@mastodon.social avatar

@jaybeavers @shanselman If you stub your toe to a couple of cabinets, you can be certain stubbing your toe against another cabinet will hurt, too.

So even if Scott has yet to try the Vision Pro, it’s not “illogical” to project that experience and form an opinion based on known specifications.

Although I don’t take his opinions for fact, I trust Scott’s judgement.

TIL that Visual Studio Code has Telemetry enabled by default 😬 and immediately went into Settings to disable it.

@zachleat @baldur Made a little website for a bunch of webdev tools a while ago to get an overview of what is being collected and how to opt out. But yeah, VS Code is being particularly naughty.

Twitter "cards" have a new look and of course.. there's room for accessibility improvements.

https://twitter.com/erikkroes/status/1709834957382680910

1️⃣ Affordance is terrible. It's not recognizable as a link, and no longer shows a short introduction text.

2️⃣ <a role="link" tabindex="-1"> <- the role is superfulous. The tabindex makes it not focusable. So I think the cards are now no longer accessible by keyboard?!

3️⃣ No hover state.

How can you tell nobody cares about accessibility anymore? Just look at the code.

What are your favourite books?

I’ve read more books past month than I have in my entire life and I want more, but I’m not sure how to discover new ones, so looking for recommendations instead.

I’m open to anything, but particularly interested about software engineering (senior+ level), leadership and coaching, computer science, tech and philosophy.

https://deno.com/blog/commonjs-is-hurting-javascript

“CommonJS is hurting JavaScript.” It’s “not browser native. You need bundlers and transpilers to make all of this code work client-side.”

Seems reasonable! Can we talk about JSX next?

(via https://fosstodon.org/@deno_land/110634009792523346)

timsev,
@timsev@mastodon.social avatar

@zachleat It doesn’t needs to be if it isn’t running in the browser. The issue is everyone bundling node(!) modules into codebases with browser as a target. It’s not as if we’re targeting different architectures that are functionally virtually identical.

timsev,
@timsev@mastodon.social avatar

@zachleat In the early days, SPA’s were exclusively client-side and could’ve worked fine with a browser-specific package manager (like bower). I think it was node.js folk that pursued isomorphism, and devs that built JS-heavy sites followed naturally.
