The Utopian UI Architect : An ex-Apple interface designer’s — Bret Victor's 40-year plan to redesign not just the way we use computers, but the way we think with them
I would not like to get into a rap beef because I feel like all the extra scheduling and coordination would be asking too much of our respective PR teams
I want to know why you gm. And how do you think about going about it. Why do you want to do it? What do you think in your head when you decide you want to gm? What are you looking forward to? What do you do first? What aspects of the rulebook do you look to to decide to run something and get started? So much of rpgs really are aimed at players yet it’s the gm who usually reads the game first!
There is no object of meditation that shake you out of imagining RPG design has developed in a neat progressive fashion like the Theatrix Flowchart will. It (the whole game, but especially it) is one of those wild branches of design that time wants to forget.
One day I will frame it and put it on my wall, just as a permanent reminder.
@LeviKornelsen@tinstargames illusionism is only bad if it’s done without consent although I mean we get into the weeds here on the perception of reality. The thing though that theatrix did was make a clear choice of intent instead of just being vague or guessing.
Still thinking about the guy who showed us round the caves yesterday and the way he said, “Yesss!” in an emphatic, mysterious voice after every piece of information he imparted. “And this formation over here, it looks like a woolly mammoth. YESSS!” “Here you can see the algae is green, not grey. Why is this? It is because it is exposed to the shaft of natural light. YESSS!”
@nickdrawthing almost always a plus. Because the clever part of rpgs is how the rules emulate the setting and force it to occur. Anyone can do task resolution.
Expectation: 50% making a good game, 50% marketing
Reality: 10% making a good game, 90% marketing
And before anyone protests, I would like to point out Super Bernie World is my most successful game, but definitely nowhere near my best game. Being memetic isn't about inherent quality, that's marketing
