Uit onderzoek naar verzetsvrouwen blijkt: er waren er veel meer dan we dachten en ze deden veel meer leidinggevend werk dan we dachten.

Stelling: DIT IS MET ALLE VROUWEN IN ALLE GEBIEDEN IN DE HELE GESCHIEDENIS 🤬

Urgh! I think me and knitting patterns are not meant to be.

Take 2 and I totally missed the add one at each end of the next 8 rows.
I need it to say "add 2 - 1 at each end, of the next 8 rows."

@eyrea @PatsyBaloney @amgine @alexisbushnell @knitting I’ve done a talk for software engineers about what they can learn from knitting pattern designers :)

@eyrea ok I NEED to have this

@PatsyBaloney @eyrea @amgine @alexisbushnell I think there is a recording floating around somewhere, but it’s in Dutch…

I had to put my cabled sweater in hibernation because my brain couldn’t grok it. Which made me sad.

Then came the January Stitches and Cream sock club with a heel-up(!) DK slipper pattern which I can do(!!) and it’s SO MUCH FUN it’s probably illegal in several regions. Needless to say it’s way less complicated than it looks 😆 @knitting @knitting

@proudblond several months now, so I’m a third generation long covid you could say :)

@proudblond thank you! it's a strange state of being. Super enjoying some small things though - like this slipper, or a really good cup of tea.

Straight flat felled seat seam neatly pressed with an impeccably consistent width & equidistant topstitching? 👍🏽

Pattern matched pieces? 👎🏽

Win some, lose some. @sewing

@DanielMenjivar my husband made me custom-fit pyjamas and they are so comfy. Definitely worth all the work he put into it. Says me anyway 😆

venite,

@DanielMenjivar I have a 39” inseam, so we live in the land of “the waist to hip vertical distance is not what the pattern designer expects” 😅

venite,
@venite@mastodon.nl avatar

@eyrea @DanielMenjivar A friend of mine has been a fit model for a couple of years, meaning that she was the personification of a specific size and they put it on her to double check the cuts, and she had to quit because her measurements fluctuated too much with her menstrual cycle. Even the people the clothes are literally made for don’t fit them!

@EvilCartyen try your iron first, you might be surprised. The waffle is VERY thin! It’s easier to slice than you may think as long as you do it while it’s hot

Echt. Investeer erin. Die gaan gróót worden. Als straks 10% van de bevolking postcovid heeft.

@spinning Spindle spinners, how do you prepare your singles for plying? I am now winding from a top whorl spindle unto a Turkish spindle so I have a nice centre-pull ball to ply from, but although it’s very meditative, it feels a bit like overkill. (I tried a plying bracelet once and hated it.)

Gotta love it when a site asks you about cookies, you reject all, and it creates a bunch of cookies regardless, including your geographic location. Laws are just suggestions to some companies.

venite,
@venite@mastodon.nl avatar

@afilina it sucks that the sites that make it easy and transparent to reject are the sites that weren’t abusing them in the first place

@tehlaughing1 you might like the style of Native Knitter or Tsinbikeeknits

@tehlaughing1 ah yes! Oh there are some FUN patterns. I follow her on Insta but seeing them all together like this is quite something!

Triffen, to accessibility

Finally I will remember which part of the printer requires which Allen key, and will also see them better in that dark drawer underneath. I think it counts as an improvement.
Cheap set of heat shrink tubes from AliExpress, hot air station (I used 170 degrees) plus a video for inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67cUhytpCJg

The same DIY colour Allen keys on the palm of my hand.

@Triffen our cycle repair shop has this too but somehow it never occurred to me that us lesser mortals could. Brilliant!

Looking for pattern recs to learn colorwork (fair isle)

Hello knitters! I have setted myself the goal to learn a new technique every few months. Now that I’m comfortable knitting in the round I’m looking to dip my toes into colorwork and was wondering if you had any recomendations for patterns to introduce me to fair isle. Preferably a small project, as I’d like to work my way...

venite,
@venite@mastodon.nl avatar

@kurobita wearing a pair right now! They're super warm because you effectively have two layers of yarn.

oh, pro tip: get wool that's a bit rustic, like Shetland or Norwegian or whatever is sticky/grippy around where you live. SO MUCH easier than, like, superwash merino if you're starting with colourwork.
