Today I spent some severely side-eyeing a truck mounted vsat rig trying to get it to find the bird

(Instead the system just kinda kept flipping me the bird, going through a coarse search over and over and giving up without seeing a signal at all, I think the ODU went kaputski)

@MLE_online I used two different pallettes. One is from Glamlite and it's Scooby Doo villain themed! The other one is the neon bright palette from Five Below.

So has anyone suggested the monumental bad idea of running an AI on the ethereum smart blockchain?

Like, chatgpt but every response costs you 230$

@foone imagine the sound of about a hundred 1 megawatt generators mounted in shipping containers chugging hard on the edge of some old oil field in South America when you say that because that's what's going to happen

Everyone complained about the non-reversable cords, but the best thing about USB C-by-default is no more "haha oops you used the wrong power cord and your device is now melted :)))))))"

Why was there not at LEAST some kind of "different amps, different sizes" standard. PC power connector should be the only one left

vxo,
@vxo@digipres.club avatar

@SirTapTap I'm pretty sure a lot of manufacturers just rolled their own weirdness to help sell more hardware

The Dystopian Future of TV Is AI-Generated 'FAST' Garbage

TCL's new AI-generated movie "Next Stop Paris" is the next evolution in the algorithmification of TV.

Hmm, even 5 feet of sea rise only takes out one naval base and a few farm fields in Ventura County. I would have thought more of the Oxnard plain was at risk. https://coast.noaa.gov/slr/#/layer/slr/5/-13260729.027868235/4045008.5481997402/14/satellite/none/0.8/2050/interHigh/midAccretion

@ai6yr There's a pumping station out next to Everglades Holiday Park west of Pembroke Pines, FL, which draws down water from a couple of canals and flings it out into a wetland area to the west. I was once told by someone who I'd like to hope knew what they were talking about that if all the pumps there went down for about a week during summer, Weston would basically revert to being a swamp

@foone I always wanted to see what'd happen if you put one of those weird portable ones in direct sunlight and see if it becomes a death laser.

There were some oddball portable units where instead of it having the lamp in the bottom below the Fresnel lens, they had it up top shining down, with a Fresnel lens on top of a mirror in the bottom.

Potential for shenanigans has always crossed my mind with those

@foone that is interesting. I remember OptiPNG having an overflow, but it was fixed years ago and hopefully doesn't still exist in the wild. CVE-2017-1000229

I got recognized at the electronics fair, but the funniest part is that they didn't fully recognize me at first.

Then I mentioned I was planning to do Terrible Things to a keyboard I bought, and THAT'S WHEN they recognized me.

Apparently my reputation precedes me.

We had a potluck for Critique in ceramics class today. Last class, our instructor passed around a sign-up sheet for foods to bring.

Five people signed up to bring chips. So, naturally, I thought to myself it would be good to bring some dip or salsa to accompany the overabundance of chips.

I brought salsa. Another classmate made five-layer bean dip.

No one actually brought chips.

Two culinary developments are in the LA news this morning.

One is about where you can find the best "flat croissants," which just seem to be croissants that have been ironed completely flat.

The other is about the rise of "fluffy bagels" — orb-shaped bagels with no hole in the middle.

vxo,

I'm making myself crave one now

@MLE_online that sounds excellent. Yeah, the shape doesn't matter to me as much as it just being a good bagel.
