#Linux people... how is Windows these days in a VM? I am about sick of the direction Windows 11 is going in... but I am stuck because my music software and VSTs do not work in Linux. Also, windows is just better with sound. I also run a Sound Blaster for EAX support in old games. Before I start messing around, does anyone know how well all this will work in a Windows VM? My main rig has a 5950x (16 cores/32 threads) and 128GB RAM... and an Nvidia 3080 Ti.

I've been really down since the whole unity thing. I was working really fast... but it totally derailed me. I know they can't be trusted for future projects... but what can I do now? I really prefer building worlds in unreal, but I'm not sure if I trust them either... And for my purposes, godot isn't there yet (I'm not a programmer. I do music, pixel art, scripting, and writing). So I've been kinda messing around in all the engines... without any clear direction. Anyone else end up like this? Here's some shots from each engine.

I don't understand why there are so many bigots in the tech community. The Nexus recent blocked a mod that removed all gay scenes from bg3 and I posted it... And OMG the fragile men went crazy in my comments (bird site)... And many were following me.
I have a very hard time understanding them and I refuse to pretend their hateful points are intellectual conversations... It's like anything that isn't a white, straight man is an attack on them. It must be so boring to be them.

Does anyone else feel like 2 people... Like your work self and your real self?
I've been working so much because it's q4 and I decided to sell out more than normal (nothing I disagree with, just stuff I'd never do if I didn't need money) so I can pay for some game dev stuff and try to quit the regular job in 2024...

But I do not feel like myself when I'm doing all that shit. So I barely talk to my friends and I don't comment here much.. I go to the bird app where everyone is fake...

How does everyone separate the unnatural stuff we have to do for money to eat from the real stuff?

Details on the lawsuit: The claim is that steam inflated prices by creating a monopoly and then charging publishers/developers 30%... forcing those publishers/developers to raise prices... which cost us all money.

was talking to someone and they gave me the line: "The problem with marxism is that it doesn't account for human greed...and that isn't stupid... but their logic is usually that capitalism is the answer... which is completely ridiculous... great.. humans are greedy by nature... and this is bad... but let's live in a system that rewards sociopathic levels of greed... let's talk about this a bit more.

I do actually agree that marxism doesn't take into account human greed/evil enough... marxism is a very old idea and we do need something new... but dealing with the greedy is always a scary topic that many just fail to address. Hording wealth doesn't seem like something worthy of punishment... but I'd like to argue that it is because it can cause others to suffer. If we had unlimited everything for everyone, whatever... but billionaires actively make life worse for 99% of the population. They can't be allowed to exist and they can't be allowed to exploit the rest of us.

Some native tribes would exile or kill those who hoarded goods for themselves because it could cause others in the tribe to suffer or even die... Maybe it's my cherokee roots, but I'd wager society would be better if we took more drastic measures to stop greed/insane wealth accumulation. We need to reward the good traits of humanity... compassion, creativity, exploration, scientific innovation, etc... and I think it would be completely reasonable to strip the billionaires of their wealth... and even lock them up. Their rights are not more important than the rights of 99.999% of the population. I don't expect this to happen... but I think it's important to have ideas that are beyond what can currently happen.

then they proceed to send me walls of text about how it's actually bad in japan and how their economy sucks...
I'm here now... LA has 22x more homeless people than the entire country of Japan. People have 30% more disposable income. The quality of literally everything is far beyond anything back home... so I guess I'm just stupid because I don't see why the japanese economy sucks and why inflation is bad... but in japan... aktchually deflation is bad?

I have two nephews that are 13 (twins).. and they are growing up in the Bible belt... Home school etc... And they didn't have a PC in the house other than the dad's work PC which was off limits. So I sent them a laptop full of games last year... This year I visited and they have figured out how to get on WiFi... And they modded Morrowind and Stardew... I'm so happy... And they were playing Mario 64 when I got here... I was like, how are you playing that. One said, "project 64."
These kids are safe now.

my Windows 10 taskbar vs the Windows 11 24H2 taskbar... I hate this so much that it's unhealthy. They have removed all the hacks that allow you to make it smaller (other than paid apps like Start11)
