We are recommending servers add "qoto.org" to their Fediblock lists, and where possible add IP blocks to prevent their servers crawling and fetching content. We've found tonight that despite our #Universeodon instance suspending them a week ago, a post I posted there tonight was boosted by the qoto site admin, which suggests they are actively bypassing suspensions and fetching content when they have been blocked.
Screenshots attached with the audit of block and boost.
As was already pointed out, those images were manipulated. Our server rules quite explicitly state that we do and will block for racism and have stated as such for years.
The ironic part about this idiocy is you could literally just look on our timeline and find even a single example of racism, which you cant.
I've finally gotten around to setting up #PixelFed and am testing the Instagram import feature, hoping everything will import nicely and I can finally ditch the need to upload there (and get around to uploading the boat load of pictures I haven't gotten around to uploading)
My apologies to the folks here on #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon where there have been delays with removing some of the spam sign-up accounts. I've been working to add a lot of new IP restrictions based on the accounts that are signing up as well as making sure we don't just catch the accounts that are suspended but also the other accounts that used the same custom e-mail domain or IP Address. It just takes a lot more time than the one click to ban the account.
So I've been trying tonight to migrate my Unifi protect from my Dream Machine to a dedicated NVR. I followed some guides that talked through how I could preserve all of my data and took great care to preserve it all.
I've just seen a re-install of the Protect app (Recommended on their forums) slowly format all of my data despite it being mid way through trying to mirror the storage.
I am really feeling quite fucking done with this thing now.
So in total that's 4TB of footage that's gone, but on the bright side the new system is now working and can at least scale. Time for bed though as I have an early start in the morning.
Turns out my home internal firewall rules were a touch too aggressive which explains why I couldn't connect to the new server I was trying to get setup. I probably need to spend some time getting all the rules setup properly on there at some point!
@peteorrall I've got a Ubiquity Dream Machine SE which has been working pretty nicely. I might at some point setup more of a home lab where I can go back to tinkering with OpnSense (Which is what we use for all the Mastodon servers) but for now something stable and that doesn't require constant intervention has been really nice!
I'm trying to be intentionally more productive with my time, which is hard because there's nothing I'd love to do more than just do nothing and mong over the weekeneds after a long week.
Yesterday wasn't so productive but today has been a bit of house work, cooking up a big batch of Chilli Con Carne which is still simmering away now, as well as some cleaning up of some servers I've had kicking around costing money on old personal projects that just need archiving and closing off.
Just wanted to share a bit of an eye opening experience. @PrinceMumbles and I have had a bit of an increase in take-out orders where I've been working a lot further away from home than usual and he's been super busy with his work and neither of us wanted to come home and cook, tonight was one of those nights and we had one this time last week as well.
The difference last week is we wanted to order from a place we had not tried but heard good things about, but they were only on #UberEats
@Whiskeyomega I haven't used them very much for cars, they don't really operate where I live and the only place I frequent that they do operate is London, and I'd prefer to hail down a black cab any day of the week.
I think I have used them maybe once in the last year, and that was to get a car from Heathrow to my house (90mins - 2 hours away depending on traffic) and that's only because local taxi's wouldn't take me.
@wild1145@PrinceMumbles My experience is to order from the vendor direct if you can. I had been tempted to try one outlet through a third party site, so I ordered. It came about two hours late though it was still warm. I discovered later that the outlet was still the deliverer and all the TP site was just a portal through which to make the order. I also found that going direct to the outlet saved £2 on the order deal compared to the TP site. The food was delivered promptly and was very hot.
I've got a bit more tidying and organising to do in my office tonight and then it's time for bed. Hoping tomorrow to get my office in a position where I can sit at my desk and actually use my desktop computer rather than sitting in my living room on my laptop to avoid having to move a small mountain of stuff out of the way!
I think it's time for a little nightcap now, I'm back to the day job tomorrow and while this week wasn't quite what I had planned it to be, it was productive at least.
We've got the website back up and running on the newer version of Mastodon. I'm just updating the content processing now and then I'll get the other web server updated so we have our scale and resiliency back online.
