This is irresponsible, and the data we have actually shows it won't erupt in violence. Despite Jan 6, there have been multiple other threats of violence, like the mar a lago subpoena, and literally nothing has materialized. They're making violence MORE LIKELY by making folks thinks other people will participate.

Violence IS the logical result of fascism, and Republicans ARE fascists. So it would be surprising if they weren't planning, threatening, and executing violence.

What Jill doesn't understand, or pretends not to understand, is that there are exactly two possible outcomes of the 2024 election: Biden elected, or Trump becomes the totalitarian leader.

If it's the latter, nothing that Stein claims to support---not worker rights, not justice for Palestinians, not climate action---can happen. Even organizing for those causes will become illegal.

I'm writing get-out-the-vote letters for the November 5 election already. Vote Forward https://votefwd.org/ is a nonprofit that organizes volunteers to send handwritten letters to voters. They can prove they've increased voter in previous elections, and that's a huge thing in an election that will probably be decided by a razor thin margin.

Here's my first letter. I plan to write ten of them daily until October.

There is no longer any excuse for allowing a cat to roam outside. A new study in Nature Communications found that free roaming / feral cats kill more than 2000 species, about half of them birds (2.4 BILLION in the US alone), followed by reptiles (including BABY SEA TURTLES) and then mammals. If these stats fail to move you, please consider the wellbeing of the cats themselves: the lifespan of an indoor cat is 10-15 years. Outside? 2-5. Catrin Einhorn lays it all out in the NYT.

We are recommending servers add "qoto.org" to their Fediblock lists, and where possible add IP blocks to prevent their servers crawling and fetching content. We've found tonight that despite our instance suspending them a week ago, a post I posted there tonight was boosted by the qoto site admin, which suggests they are actively bypassing suspensions and fetching content when they have been blocked.

I used to think rooftop wind power was not really worth it in terms of power generated per dollar spent on the wind turbine. Now… well, the wind here hasn’t dropped below 30kph for at least the past 24 hours and I am definitely wondering if it might actually be sensible in some areas. It’s certainly got a cheaper cost-to-install over solar, though I dunno how well all the moving bits will weather in the high salt/sand/sun environment here.

If I had it to do over again, I'd prefer photovoltaic panels on some freestanding structure, rather than on my roof. Eventually that roof will have to be redone, and removing/reinstalling the panels is going to be even more labor than the original installation.

My dream: solar panels or solar glass OVER my roof.
