@Jyoti ugh. First peertube instance i joined i left cause they were chummy with harassers
Now I'm gonna have to delete my makertube. Cool
No way they gonna be able to handle my lyrics once i upload music
@diyelectromusic I've also started looking at the MiniDexed code, got it to build but no joy getting messages to display, my sysex messages only produce horrible noises :)
The lack of a unanimous response over calling tech.lgbt "just like kiwifarms" is absolutely pitiful.
In any more functional scene, you'd be laughed out of the room months before you'd accrue the social capital to say absurd shit like this.
Instead, you can say this and still manage to be taken seriously and cause damage.
And tech.lgbt is a deliberate target. The targets victimized so far were trans weirdos who self-host pleroma for a group of 6 friends. The sorta people who are also plural / autistic / furry / permanently destitute and dependent on mutual aid.
Now, the stakes are raised, but not too much: yes, tech.lgbt people are a bit more presentable as a whole, there's more cis gays, and they are not all economically lower-class (as "tech" implies). But they are still very neurodivergent, explicitly welcome furries, and so forth: far from being model minorities in the respectability olympics. And there's only 4 thousands of them - still small enough to be a rounding error. And they have an history of preferring appeasement.
So what do you say? They would make a fine scapegoat, do we sacrifice them?
@diyelectromusic BTW - Can I ask for your opinion on something? I don't need a solution, just would like your appraisal how difficult it would be.
Suppose I want to send messages to the MiniDexed to make it display arbitrary text on the LCD (overriding whatever it's currently displaying for a few seconds then going back to the previous screen). I can only spare two pins to do it (software serial or something like that). How hard or trivial would it be?
@diyelectromusic took a look at your fork and went reading more about sysex
unless there's a reason the minidexed would have any use for something fancier, my thinking was to just go for the simplest solution that fits my needs like
F0 70 [Timeout in seconds] [32 characters in whatever encoding the LCD uses] F7
@diyelectromusic well, it doesn't need to be accurate anyway, and long presses are already in the code so there's gotta be some facilities already existing for that! I have not looked in depth at it yet
Always see people rotating around big time keywords like “the revolutionary appropriation of queer bodies in anti-colonial spaces” i got no fucking clue what you on about, you’re making it complicated on purpose so it’s as removed from real-life as possible. then you always try to sneak in some horrible “therefore this is why a specific oppressed group is bad” conclusion nobody really notices the first time.
Look, antisemites bad, homophobes bad, racists bad, transphobes bad, nazis pew pew it gets the rifle in the streets. You can talk like that too if you want.
One of those things i was thinking about last year was how it sucks we have no centralized community for making 3d printing accessibility aids for your local community (for free or cost of materials yknow)
Reminded how on twitter (rip) someone was like "how can i have this game controller mod printed for my disabled friend" and people were recommending super overpriced services that would never tweak their slicer settings right
Those kinda controller mods very often make use of compliance - the ability of plastic to bend but not break. You need to know your stuff to print them right.
They were in australia, i asked a friend of mine living there to ask their friend into 3D printing to get in touch, so maybe they got hooked up
But like, who needs stuff locally? I'd love to make my machine useful. It's not like i'm running it 24/7. And I can make bespoke designs adapted to your needs... I just have zero clue what you need, and you have zero clue i live nearby and would love to help
speaking of which, one of my favorite "you would never have guessed yourself people would find this 3d printable item useful" i saw a while ago: wheelchair handle spikes.
i remember someone mentioning how useful they were to "keep assholes from grabbing and moving me". it was striking how they said "grabbing me", considering it a part of their body.
you could make an instance that recites the right keywords, fake profiles that claim the proper oppression credentials, set up a LLM to make up fake accusations about people who are always picking up fights, and it would take weeks for you to be found out
@diyelectromusic i think my plan is to do basically this, probably make a PCB for it too, and see if I can hack the minidexed code a little to be more of a simple patch player instead of menu-divey. Also thinking of adding a few favorite slots you can swap to using buttons / gates.
