YSK: You should dry off beef before cooking. Doing so promotes the Maillard Reaction, which will make the meat taste and look better. (www.seriouseats.com)

Why YSK: When you cook meat, any water on the surface must first evaporate before much browning can occur. You want to get as much of a Maillard reaction as possible in the limited cooking time you have before the meat reaches the correct internal temperature. Removing the moisture first means that the heat of the cooking...

It's not the same as aged steak. OP's post is simply about patting your meat dry with a paper towel or similar prior to cooking.

I love me a taco night and that food looks tasty, but consider cleaning up before taking photos and sharing.

Idk y’all, I see a lot of angry posts about Reddit still because of being essentially forced out, however!

I feel like lemmy is actually really amazing and has a lot of smart discussion happening instead of the constant circlejerking that happens on Reddit. I also feel the community here is a lot more hopeful/helpful! That’s all, thanks for reading 😄

I'm just here because of my herding instincts.

Hi.

Yes! I never know how to feel about being prompted for a tip when I get carry out. Normally the tip is for table or delivery service. I don't think I should be obligated to compensate someone's wage for running my credit card and handing me a bag.

It is is 100% the case that establishments know customers will feel obligated to tip in any scenario they are prompted.

Hell, how do I even know that such a tip goes to the service staff who are paid less than minimum wage?

The Relay dev thinks they can make a subscription model work. Last I checked they still hadn't determined pricing, but they were hopeful that it would be about a 60/40 split for them/the API. I'm skeptical it will work out that way, I have a feeling most of it will just go to reddit.

But the app will continue to work for the next few weeks before the subscription kicks in while the dev works out the details.

I have high expectations for Creation Engine 2. Bethesda got a lot out of the original. I have no doubt that they've taken their time with Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 just to make sure this engine is ready for them.

As hyped as I am for Starfield, I can't help but think that it's basically a massive scale beta test for Elder Scrolls 6, just to make sure all the kinks are worked out before they release the successor to Skyrim.

Because Bethesda made some of the my most enjoyed games ever on the first engine, and presumably the successor will be better.

This is the first time I've seen overlap between accidental Renaissance and Cyberpunk.

Satisfactory.

I love making efficient systems and the freedom to do things the way I want to, such as by using the game's alternate recipe system.

The exploration and movement systems in the game are also to notch. It's not quite Titanfall, but I struggle to think of any other game where simply moving around is so fun. That's on top of how pretty the actual environment is to explore.

what's your favorite Gameboy game that isn't Pokemon or Mario?

I've just rediscovered my childhood Gameboys, I grew up in the 90s and had an original, a color, an advance and an sp. My game collection has whittled down over the year to the usual suspects, Pokemons, Zelda's, Mario's and some other standards. But I want to dive into some games that 7 year old me would have brushed over. So...

I can't believe I'm the first person to mention Link's Awakening in this thread. Still one of my favorite Zelda games. It's bizarre quirkiness felt just like all the strange aberrations that manifest in dreams.

Timberborn! Update 4 stuff really added a lot.

Satisfactory (Early Access, but very polished)

My wife and I have already dumped probably 300 hours into Act 1 in Early Access. I'm worried about what's going to happen to us when the full game comes out.

Mars. Simple, it's the closest and best candidate for exploration (and hopefully more!) in my lifetime.

KOTOR I has got to be my official vote. Honorable mention to the original Rogue Squadron.

I felt like their 2018 album, Vaxis I, was a big return to form for them (and loved it), very similar to Apollo I.

Vaxis II was weird for me until I realized what it was, because it was a departure from Vaxis I's return to older Coheed form. I realized Vaxis II is Coheed's equivalent to Van Halen's Jump. Less guitar forward, with a larger focus on keyboard work.

I definitely agree with /u/ThePillarOfSummer though, pretty much any Coheed fan would like the last few songs on this album.

How will that work as KBin updates? Scripts are likely to break. Seems like a better way would be a feature request page.

I'm not sure what's more impressive. Your commitment to this joke, or your inability to read the room.

Trump pleads not guilty to federal charges (apnews.com)

A spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service says former President Donald Trump will be digitally fingerprinted and have his birthdate and Social Security number taken as part of the booking process at the federal courthouse in Miami. The spokesman said the former president will forgo a mugshot tuesday because enough photos of him...

The only part of my factory that should be impacted is my temporary oil setup in the desert crossroads, so I'm probably going to keep on the same world after I update. I'm probably going to wait for the stable release later this summer though.

Main thing I'm missing is the ability to collapse comment threads. I'd prefer to not have to scroll past tons of replies to find the next main thread in a comment section.

It's a cinematic trailer, so we probably shouldn't look too much into it, but there was a cool shot that showed bridges being constructed over the city streets. I wonder if they will add a focus on verticality in the new game.

A bit bummed to see the ambiguous 2024 date. I hope we're still not 18 months away from the release.
