Pons_Aelius,

Holy shit.

The legal genius has spent several weeks in jail because of traffic infringement?

What an special person they are.

Pons_Aelius,

What I don't understand is this. The person owns the bookshop and is complaining about what is on the shelves.

Aren't they in charge of what they stock?

If they feel so fervently about this why are they stocking (and I assume selling) these books that offend them so much?

If you feel this strongly, empty your shop of all those works that offend you and only stock things that meet you approval and stop your bitching online about something you control...

How many of you understand that you can be on lemmy without bringing reddit here?

Every day I see another post on lemmy about how awful reddit is. As someone who migrated during the API fiasco, I don’t know why people want to bring the grifting here. Who cares of reddit banned you for promoting lemmy? Who cares about reddits constant enshittification? None of us are on reddit anymore for those exact...

Pons_Aelius,

I thought everyone knew the rule.

When on a date, do not endlessly bash your ex.

Pons_Aelius,

I spent a decade working in insolvency.

When we were going into a business that had failed the question was "Are the idiots, criminals or both?"

One highlight:

A boat sales / marine business goes bust. When we arrive with the paper work and seize the place there are about a dozen new boats on the lot worth several million. We change the locks on the gates.

Arrive the next day, the gates have been busted open and several million in boats are now missing. We look up the addresses of the owners (one of them lives on acreage) and drive to their property...from the road we can see the boats stashed there. Really smart guys.

So we call the police. Someone inside notices use there and decides to flee with one of the boats, it is huge but they think they can get away.

We then have the slowest car chase in history as we calmly follow this guy towing a boat on a trailer down the road while talking to the cops to meet us.

Pons_Aelius,

Well, once you are an adult...you can make your own decisions on both issues.

Until then I would suggest not doing either.

The USSR collapsed more than 30 years ago. Modern day Russia has nothing to do with communism at all.

It is closer to its Czarist imperial roots than it is to the the USSR. You would be more accurate using the Russian Imperial Eagle

They literally revived the old imperial symbol when the Russian federation was created.

Pons_Aelius,

She is getting paid a minimum of 6 million per year.

She will agree with EM till hell freezes over to keep that gravy train rolling down the tracks.

Not crazy just venal.

Venal: (adjective) Open to bribery; mercenary. Obtainable for a price.

Pons_Aelius,

Apple is about making money. If honesty and integrity do not increase profits, they will be discarded.

Pons_Aelius,

seems eminently wikipediable

Telephones existed for a century before wikkipedia...

In the before times: The guinness book of records started as a promo by the guinness brewery given to pub owners to settle bar argumnets like this one.

Pons_Aelius,

Counter point:

The majority of players do not have the time to invest or inclination to get gud.

All they want is to have an enjoyable playing experience. Getting ganked in every game is not an enjoyable playing experience.

"Designers should strive to find a way that players of all skill levels can have fun together.".

The way that is done in a game like golf is handicapping. Would the high skill players be ok with shorter wait times if they were handicapped?

My guess is: Fuck no.

Pons_Aelius,

How long until we see knock off versions by Huyndai, Hyandui and of course...Amazon Basics?

Pons_Aelius,

Who honestly didn't see this outcome?

China splashes money at developing countries they have little or no ability to repay.

The money is spent contracting Chinese construction companies to build infrastructure projects of dubious relevance and value.

So, China loans the money, which returns to China via Chinese construction companies and the countries are left holding the bill.

I doubt the CCP ever actually expected to be paid back but will hold the outstanding loans over the country's heads as leverage.

I also expect that some of the countries involved never had any intention of paying back the loans and are playing the CCP for idiots. Once things get worse internationally they will nationalise the projects and tell China to go fuck themselves with the west's tacit support and backing.

Pons_Aelius,

India's work productivity is one of the lowest in the world. Unless we improve our work productivity

Working longer hours does not increase worker productivity.

Stanford professor: Working this many hours a week is basically pointless.

Working Overtime? Longer Hours Won’t Make You More Productive

Research Finds That Working Longer Hours Doesn't Make You More Productive

Always be suspect of someone telling a group to work longer if they are not in that group.

Pons_Aelius,

did we win?

Just because they paused this offensive, does not mean the war is over.

I believe it was a case of testing the waters. These are some of the questions they were looking to answer

Did the pop up cause those who received it to buy premium?

Did the pop up cause those who received it to turn off add block for that site?

Did the pop up cause those who received it to not use youtube at all?

Did the pop up cause those who received it to move to third party front-ends?

My guess is they are looking at the data now to answer this question: (the only one they care about)

From the data gained, is it likely that going on a full offensive against add-blockers make us more money?

If yes, the offensive will begin.

If no, they will look at other alternatives.

Pons_Aelius,

Not sure about that but it is a great way to get Kuru

Have you heard of barrier aggression in dogs?

TLDR: Dogs use body language. smell etc to gauge wether another dog is friend or foe. When a barrier (like a fence etc) stops this assessment, they go straight to aggression as a defence/protection measure.

My guess is it a similar thing in humans.

We are stripped of our usual communication and threat assessment of the other person we would have in a normal encounter. We can't see their face, their body language etc etc. So if someone is prone to anxiety and/or aggression (two sides of the same coin), they jump straight to "That driver is a cunt who did that on purpose and to spite me".

Edit: This is also why I think online discussions so often turn into insult ridden shit fests.

Pons_Aelius,

Not every homophobe is closeted/repressed and gay.

Many are just bigoted shitheads.

Pons_Aelius,

I would note that the USA is about the only place this is actually possible.

In pretty much all other democracies, if the parliament fails to pass the budget bill, it triggers a dissolution of both houses and an election is held.

Pons_Aelius,

I’m pretty sure gaming studios would be mostly fine with paying a percentage of the sales revenue to unity too,

I think the real problem is changing the terms of the agreement and making it retroactive.

Pons_Aelius,

Here is what you need to know:

Stop using chrome.

Pons_Aelius,

wanted to hang Snowden

Wanted?

They still do.

Google's AI Bots Tout 'Benefits' of Genocide, Slavery, Fascism, Other Evils (www.tomshardware.com)

If you asked a spokesperson from any Fortune 500 Company to list the benefits of genocide or give you the corporation’s take on whether slavery was beneficial, they would most likely either refuse to comment or say “those things are evil; there are no benefits.” However, Google has AI employees, SGE and Bard, who are more...

LLMs whole goal is to sound convincing based on the training data used. That's it.

They have no self-awareness.

They are simply running maths to predict the next word they should use that will sounds plausible to a human reader.

Pons_Aelius,

Just make sure you strip the meta data from the picture before you send in your evidence.

Pons_Aelius,

For a lot of the big subs, sure. But every mod I encountered in the hobby/food/gardening subs were good and ran good spaces.

Pons_Aelius,

Why?

Everything successful fb has done in more than a decade is copying or acquiring competitors.

Zuck has spent a few years setting $36,000,000,000 on fire building secondlife2, that nobody wants. The stock is down 25% in the last 2 years.

facebook is like google, both are advertising companies at their core. They both leveraged one idea to serve adds really well and have failed to produce anything new in house since.
