I just saw an email from Buy Me a Coffee. Not just one. I went in, and I'm truly shocked. Thank you all for the support; I would like to thank each and every one of you individually someday. Honestly, I don't know what to say. The account balance is $350, which will definitely allow me to develop kbin faster or at least not...
Hey, once again, I welcome the newcomers. It's great to see new faces here :) It seems that we've managed to resolve the server issue. Unfortunately, I had to temporarily disable certain features, such as content auto-refresh. It will be restored at the beginning of next week after the infrastructure change, so you'll get to...
Hi there! I've been trying to improve the situation for the past few hours. I managed to disable CF Protection, and as you can see, I'm gradually allowing traffic from the fediverse. There may still be delays in deliveries and posts for some time. If anything is particularly troublesome, please let me know through the contact...
Hello! You may have noticed that the majority of posts and threads in your feed on Kbin are from within the platform itself. This is because the admin has activated Cloudflare DDoS protection which basically slows down requests to kbin, to prevent the website from experiencing downtime or becoming slow to respond....
what is better for single user instance, or maybe something small like under 10 users (no communities)? which is lighter on resources? how much storage should I allocate?...
Assuming we do get an Opencollective at some point I wonder if we could query their API and have a 'flair' for users who are donating, whilst anonymising their exact profile/donation amount.
According to https://fedidb.org/software/Kbin it had 5389 users at midnight last night. When I first looked at that page on Saturday it had ~800 users. It will be interesting to see what it says tomorrow after it updates.
I think the 'stats' in the bottom link are showing numbers across the fediverse. Not just Kbin?
In practice: It looks like the install can be a PITA, maybe leave it a few days until the rough edges are smoothed out. Unless you can smooth the edges: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues
All the Lemmy severs together do have more, kbin.social is the the single largest instance. If the current trends continued then it would have more MAU than all Lemmy instances tomorrow.
Any of this would presuppose the existence of a modlog/ audit system. You wouldn't grant any delete permissions using this system & changes could always be reverted by those higher up the food chain.
I'm interested to explore the assumption that the correct people to control discourse and have some censorship power are those that seek to control discourse and have censorship power.

Why did you choose your instance?
I'm currently struggling to find my home. I have an account here at lemmy.ml, where most of my posts are, and one at kbin....
what phones are you all using?
Curious what phones are more privacy-focused.
Thank you so much for your support! 😍

Why are you not seeing as many posts from Lemmy communities on Kbin?

Take a bow, developers of kbin.social
Hats off, guys. I can't even imagine how hard it must have been for you guys to keep kbin.social up and running since yesterday....
Donating $5/month to Kbin to keep the lights on?
I was trying to work out how much to donate to Kbin to keep the lights on. I read somewhere it costs something like $1/month per user?...
Today I think kbin.social became the busiest server in the threadiverse
Moderate by lottery?
So this is a half formed idea that might be horrible, I thought I'd throw it out there for critique....
Why not kbin and lemmy merge?
So it can digg and bury reddit once and for all
