I took this picture back in 2019. It’s a composite of 10 exposures (I can’t remember the exact exposure time but probably around a minute per exposure)....
I don't think many people understand that if they use Lemmy or kbin, they are posting to the fediverse. There are other platforms and will be more to come. Referring to a post on "Lemmy" or "kbin" is like saying you saw a post on your Windows or Mac computer....
Japanese drugmaker Eisai and US-based Biogen have been working together on advancing research in the space of Alzheimer’s for nearly a decade. Finally, the FDA, granted the fruits of that labor, Leqembi, its blessing for intravenous use. This marks the first approved treatment that can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s.
In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.
I really think this thread is a great example of why the average person doesn’t care that much.
The whole thread is full of comments like “the issues caused by giving away all your data are too abstract, too far away, or too difficult to understand”. This is true by the way, I completely agree.
But I haven’t seen a single comment trying to explain those possible issues in an easily understandable way. The average person (or, at least me) reading threads like this won’t learn anything new. Give me a practical issue that I might face, and if I agree that it’s an issue, I’ll focus more on avoiding that issue.
In other words, an example:
Let’s say I’m a person using lemmy/mastodon, only using privacy-focused search engines etc.
If I would now change to using facebook/threads, started using Chrome as my browser, etc the usual mainstream tracking stuff - what problems can this cause for me in the future?
PS. I do agree with the notion of “minimize the data you give away”, which is one reason I’m here, but I really don’t have an answer for these questions. I’m like “I understand the point of privacy, but can’t explain the reasons”.
I've noticed that Kbin turns gray the title of the posts that I've already clicked, but it'd be nice if I could just hide the ones I already saw, keeping my "Hot" section always fresh with new content....
I tried looking around for a changelog but I couldn't find one anywhere (let me know if you know where it is, I know you can look at the commits/merged PRs on Codeberg but there's a lot to dig through)....

I've just realised I said I was going to migrate my Fedi account this week, but haven't yet. Time to start getting ready, I guess...
Are there any good posts/threads around that cover the migration process, with any potential issues I could encounter?
It's pretty straightforward, just back up ("export") everything (follows, followers, lists, blocks, etc) and request/download an archive of your posts before you start.
Remember, migrating is two steps: (1) pull from the new account, then (2) push from the old account.
Note that your posts do not migrate, and while followers migrate automatically, you have to import your follows manually.
The step-by-step details are on the wiki page here.
Just in case you're moving to calckey, they've streamlined the process a bit:

It is not Lemmy or kbin, it is the fediverse.

OC Full, expanded list of all the data points and their purposes that Meta's Threads collect and link to user accounts. It's even more insane than you might've thought.

I think the average person just simply doesn't care about their privacy.

Any script to hide posts that already had been viewed?

🎉The winner is Kibby! 150/375 votes. To celebrate, I have a gift for everyone! ❤︎ 🎉
It's been two days since I originally posted the final name poll, votes have stopped coming in, and the winner is Kibby!...
Loving the new updates, but what all has changed?
