I'm mostly at my standalone GoToSocial server these days. I tried migrating this account again, and this time I figured out the problem: I'd misconfigured my server's proxy settings and everything was getting rate limited.

So next time it should finish - but I have to wait another 29 days for the cooldown. Meanwhile, if you'd like to see what I'm up to lately, feel free to follow me at @kelson

We're aware of some issues in our Account Migration feature that prevents a proper migration.

We're working on a fix, and will update you when we ship the fix!

Hey !

Here's a personal announcement:
I plan to shut down my instance this summer.
I'm trying to shrink the number of different services I am using, to reduce VM and storage costs (reducing costs even more would imply downsizing my servers, which would degrade even more performance of my services).

And I figured that I didn't have very interesting stuff to share lately, everyone on here is already doing a great job in providing the Fediverse with awesome content ^_^.

So I think that, for now, I'm going to "archive" this account and use @clemv (a third-party-hosted Mitra instance) as my main account from now on.

And ultimately the instance will be taken down during the summer.

I may take some time to redirect every link/profile and resub everything there, so don't worry if I'm not following you from the "new" account yet, I'll do so before I take down my instance :)

See you!

It's taking longer than expected to finish the account migration feature (take your Pixelfed followers to another PF or Mastodon server)

I'm like 90% done though, and hope to wrap it up and ship v0.12.13 later this weekend!

⚠️ We're aware of a bug affecting Account Migrations!

We're working on a fix, and it will be applied to existing migrations without any action from users.

We apologize for any inconvenience!

One thing I miss from the golden age of , when pretty much everyone was on it and kept their up to date, was that it was easy to find how to message someone. When I wanted to contact someone who I hadn't talk to in a while, I just used Facebook. I didn't had to worry that I had a wrong or outdated email address. I could see their profile to make sure it's the right person, and that they had been active recently so my message wouldn't get lost in the void. It was reassuring.

Another difficulty that come with decentralization: What if you want to migrate your profile, including all your address book, to a new host because your current host is problematic? It should be easy to migrate, without losing any of your friends or their data.

I have a thought about the issue of not bringing posts over. Part of the issue is intrinsic to : a post URL is also its permalink and GUID, so even if it were copied over, it would have a different ID from the original post.
So, how about copying the posts and then making the original posts 304 Moved Permanently redirect to the new ones once the migration is done. Not a perfect solution, but a step in the right direction.

Just migrated here from mastodon.social! Pretty cool to see the account migration process work.

I've just realised I said I was going to migrate my Fedi account this week, but haven't yet. Time to start getting ready, I guess...
Are there any good posts/threads around that cover the migration process, with any potential issues I could encounter?

I want to be as prepared as possible.

BradRubenstein,

For the record, migrating accounts.

It's pretty straightforward, just back up ("export") everything (follows, followers, lists, blocks, etc) and request/download an archive of your posts before you start.

Remember, migrating is two steps: (1) pull from the new account, then (2) push from the old account.

Note that your posts do not migrate, and while followers migrate automatically, you have to import your follows manually.

The step-by-step details are on the wiki page here.

Just in case you're moving to calckey, they've streamlined the process a bit:
