Ding ding ding! Nailed it!

Well, my situation anyway. And now I’m looking at skipping multiple payments because my new (to me) car has multiple problems that can’t be babied along anymore.

And presumably if they're willing to take these risks, it's because the situation where they come from is even worse.

Just wanted to chime in that you are the only other person I’ve seen mention this. It’s like everyone just assumes people try and cross the border for the hell of it, but despite the barriers to doing so it ends up still being the best option for these people. Maybe we should look at fixing the root of the problem, as opposed to treating people like trash.

Sure, as long as we don’t mind the population tanking and going back to the Stone Age.

Can cargo bikes compete with cars? Cargo bike sharing users rate cargo bikes superior on most motives – Especially if they reduced car ownership (www.sciencedirect.com)

The transport sector and especially private cars pose environmental, economic, and social challenges. For this reason, cargo bikes and shared mobility are considered viable alternatives for road transport. In order to understand the potential and barriers of alternative transport modes, it is essential to analyze underlying...

I mean, I’d like to get a nice cargo e-bike eventually. I’m maybe a 15 minute ride from both work and the grocery store, so it’d be ideal for me. Problem is that I simply can’t afford one that can support my fat ass.

Consider the average person's intelligence. Then realize half (or so) are stupider than that.

Ah yes, I totally have the time to dedicate to each and every single one of these 'endless' experiences and an bottomless wallet chock full of cash whose only purpose is to be spent on cosmetic items that nobody but me will ever give two shits about.

Always replace ‘The Economy’ with ‘Rich People’s Yacht Money’ and you’ve got your answer.

Water is heavy, and plants are made of mostly water.

SuiXi3D,

Except that plants grow… and grow, and grow. Unless they’re maintained, which takes additional labor and people and infrastructure to handle, all of which adds even more weight.

SuiXi3D,

The issue I was trying (and failing) to get at is the additional weight the building now has to support on top of everything else a building normally has to support. However, it doesn't seem to be a big deal judging by everyone's replies.

That’s awesome, thanks for the info!

Cheaper, easier to work with, melts at lower temps, flows better, take your pick.

That being said, why they aren’t spot welded is a mystery. I suppose solder is a better connection, but still. Why take the chance?

SuiXi3D,

Well, if they’re gonna drop out they’ll need some kind of experience to make it in the real world later on. Might as well be work experience, I guess.

Agreed.

You aren’t wrong by any means. It sucks all around, but at least they’re being given the chance to contribute in some small way even if it isn’t ideal. However, I highly doubt any employer they’ll work for will treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve as human beings regardless of their age or circumstances.

Still, silver linings and all.

I’m thinking about the sorts of folks that drop out of high school. Better for them to be able to get work experience early on rather than have to leech off their parents for a few years while not being able (or willing) to give anything back.

I’m not saying the situation is ideal by any means, certainly. In an ideal world, every kid would be able to get an awesome education and become amazing contributors to society. We don’t live in that world. We live in a world where people are too poor to afford to drive their kids to school, to afford the lunches they’re being forced to pay for their kids at that school, to afford the supplies they need, etc etc.

If our lawmakers aren’t going to fix larger societal problems, at least these kids can try to make it by, rather than simply being a drain. And yes, I know this law passing is only making things harder to fix in the long run, but at least the kids are allowed to do something that might help ‘em stay off the street or off drugs. Yes, companies are going to exploit them for cheap labor… like they do adults. The issue isn’t just that kids are working, the issue is also that companies are allowed to exploit anyone, regardless of age. That’s a larger issue that will take a lot more effort to fix.

So in the meantime, let the kids at least try if their means prevent a better life otherwise.

I've seen enough. Right now politics — culture and collegiality, magnitude and intensity of dysfunction — is the worst it's been in decades. More broken than ever. Not impossible but v hard to see how it's put back together

No. How dare these fascist, Nazi dirtbags try and force me from my home.

‘Texas Government’ and ‘The Right Thing To Do’ are oxymorons.

Texas Supreme Court blocks Attorney General Ken Paxton's deposition in whistleblower case (www.kut.org)

Paxton’s deposition was scheduled for Thursday. But on Tuesday the all-Republican court issued an order putting the deposition on hold and giving the parties until Feb. 29 to respond. The high court’s ruling came hours after former President Donald Trump called on the justices to stop the whistleblower case. “Enough time...

Of course they did. When will the people of this state start to hold our lawmakers accountable for the misery they inflict?!

Just remember that cats don’t really learn from negative reinforcement. You’ve got to reward the behaviors you want from them with treats. They don’t have the cognition to associate punishment with the action they were just doing, they only see it as an attack of some kind.

SuiXi3D,

Right, but it’s the kind of terrible that the GOP supposedly likes, but because they refuse to even associate with democrats much less work with them, they have a knee jerk response to anything they put forward. Nothing will get done in this country so long as the Republican Party has control over anything.

Nobody seemed to complain about buying studios when Sony was doing it years ago. Or EA.

It’s hard to find talented studios to make AAA games, especially on short notice. Far easier and faster to just buy an existing company and its talent rather than try to lure said talent away to join you normally. Sony did just that many years ago, and look at the awesome games they come out with! Why _wouldn’t Microsoft do the same thing to try and compete?

I’m not saying it’s a good thing for gamers, but it makes sense from a business perspective.
