The #WCCChallenge this week, "Why Is The Sky Blue" turned out some nice results. I worked out a way to approximate Rayleigh scattering by altitude with help from Dave and Ruben from the discord group, and then unfortunately had to throw that out and go with a simpler method that would produce more artistic results with less CPU usage. Oh well, I'll use it eventually. This image is from the 33 minute mark, though it looks pretty cool even a short while in.

I was in the zone, so I managed to adapt three in this week's session tonight, all from Al Seckel's ultimate book. I also updated the Hermann illusion to work better. I think they all have some fairly fun interaction. I'm not totally sold on the "exploding squares" illusion (the upper right one), so let me know what you think.

"exploding squares illusion". I had misinterpreted it a bit. The gap in the middle is bigger than the other ones after all. But I guess they look like they're moving apart a bit? I dunno.
Curving lines illusion. I was pleased with how quickly this one came together. The thin lines look like they're continuously curving lines, but they're all straight segments that approximate a the curves. Fun interaction.
Hermann illusion. This works a lot better for me than when it was pure black squares.

Discovered an interesting new #CellularAutomata rule. It started as a bug, but with a little tweaking it became the Borg Nebula.

The exciting thing is it runs on the web, and soon anyone will be able to try this and much more!

Here's a weird #rayhatching experiment from yesterday.
The left shape is a distorted sphere, and the right is a distorted cylinder. It's fun to morph shapes with sine functions.

This week's addition to the #opticalillusion collection, "angled dango" is a fun one I had bookmarked, with columns of balls with angled connecting lines that cause it to all appear tilted. Dango are a wonderful Japanese street food treat. The code is a bit rough, but good enough, and I like the interaction design and aesthetic. I updated the sketch so that the current week's illusion will be the starting one, regardless of where I put it in the set.
