grue,

Of course Yahoo buried the lede:

While the searches may not be popular, they’re certainly profitable.

Clayton County records and federal documents show that drug agents find large amounts of cash on passengers at departing gates rather than drugs. Agents have seized millions of dollars, and while travelers aren’t arrested, their money is often administratively forfeited.

Like most civil forfeiture cases, people who have their money taken must prove in court that their money isn’t connected to drug trafficking or other illegal activity. Seizures like these don’t just happen at the Atlanta airport. They’ve taken place at airports across the country.

pixxelkick,

This is awesome, I was talking about this with some friends, debating what is truly the best way to store data for long term (on the scale of thousands of years)

Backing up all of human knowledge and history onto such plates actually seems like a worthy endeavor.

Imagine if we had such detailed records about civilizations thousands of years ago!

We have demonstrated time and time again that if you have a bunch of data unencrypted, it is actually quite trivial to reverse engineer it and decipher it.

Dead sea scrolls, Rosetta stone, etc.

This would be terabytes of data, and likely organized in a way to make it very intuitive to reverse engineer even by someone who has no idea how it works.

We could even case study this. Give a loaded one of these slates to some scientists who have no idea how the data on them is stored and have them try and decipher it.

If they can reasonably succeed quickly with no knowledge on how it works, then it should be easy for someone thousands of years from now too.

ChristianWS,

Not going to lie, I hate the middle click clipboard and disable it ASAP. I really dislike the idea that it copies things without my explicit permission.

Beau has three videos out on it already. He's really good for context on military things.

Joe091,

Same. How does one fix this? I’ve had this issue for years.

Hedup,

It's a clickbaity title in a sense that Trusty already quit from his team in the documents case. It's not another lawyer quitting, but the same lawyer, it's just that this time he's quitting altogether from all other cases and any cooperation too.

dipbeneaththelasers,

Oh, great, now that I'm off Reddit they go and create the perfect sub.

One Small step, a giant leap for Fediverse but...

Day 2 here, and I can see the growth already. Personally I really like the notion of how its gonna shape up in the future but at the same time I really feel for the average user as of now its too complex to understand the working and how the cross servers thing is working. I mean yes still early days, UI will improve further...

Thekingoflorda,

You know how discord has multiple servers?
Now imagine if those servers where actually owned by a person (self-hosted), and each server could connect with the other servers, so you can see content on whatever server you are.
