John Carter is such a fun romp, I think it really captured the spirit of old scifi, where things were a little silly compared to today bc they were really just flying by the seat of their pants imagining space travel and other planets. It was a real melding of scifi/fantasy. Today, we've seen pictures of the surfaces of those planets, and now current scifi is more like reading a thesis (nothing wrong with that), where the author really delves into the science, so the old stuff does seem corny. But it's great. It's like Jupiter ascending but good
Don't agree about TLJ, the prequel trilogy is just too ridiculous not to love, but I agree about rogue one. It was dull in all regards, color palette, characterization, erso's backstory and motivation...Im still confused by it's popularity. But I guess a lot more people than I realized actually don't like the Jedi. Which...then why watch star wars?
I watched it as being Stargate in name only, and on its own I think it was an entertaining show. What brought it home to me was that they were trapped on a ship jumping to random worlds. I thought that was an amazing framing device.
I started watching Dr who when the reboot was 3 seasons in, I think David Tennant was the greatest doctor. A few years later I finally got wife to give it a shot as I started a fresh rewatch in preparation for Matt Smith's second season, she was ok with Eccelston and Tennant but Matt Smith is far and away her favorite doctor....
This does apply to me. Eccleston was my first and always will be my fav, can't beat the leather jacket. I should give the newer docs a chance, didn't make it through smiths run. And watch classic who too at some point!
The top is linen and made with the (free) peppermint wraptop pattern and the shorts are made from a damaged quilt I found at a charity shop. I was also able to make a bag, pair of dungarees, and a hat from this quilt! I did add pockets to the shorts but these patterns didn't really need any altering. The bag is self drafted,...
I've long been a fan of text adventures (aka interactive fiction) so when I saw that Aaron A. Reed was Kickstarting a book covering 50 years of it, I immediately became a backer. For each year, he selects one text adventure that encapsulates what the state of the genre was like for that year. Well, he's recently released it to...
I can understand why it wasn't very popular, it was definitely less epic in scope than the others. But I felt like it was more consistent, there weren't any episodes I wanted to skip. Also I like Kaz's loveable goof character type more than Ezra's antisocial self. He had reasons to be like that but he made it hard for me to get through rebels.
Hello new people joining the #Mastodon and #Lemmy sides of the #Fediverse! How did you find yourself here? What was the specific point that lead you to make the jump?
I've known about mastodon, but had never been a fan of microblogging...but I found out about kbin.social on a subreddit and I like the fediverse a whole lot more already. This should have been how social media was from the start, but I'm looking forward to seeing how it grows!
#kbin works like this: Upvotes/downvotes do not cross instances. Lets say this post has 100 upvotes on kbin.social and no one on kbin.social votes on it ever again. Over on anotherInstance.net it gets 222 upvotes. Those votes only stay on anotheInstance.net and kbin.social continues to show only 100 upvotes. Do I have that right?
I have a question about tags....I know that posts on mastodon show up as microblogs. But it seems like they also show up as posted to specific magazines? Are mastodon users posting to specific magazines, or are specific tags gathered into magazines or something, or how does that work? Also, is there a way to follow tags from kbin? Thank you!
Replying to my own post in case anyone has the same question, apparently magazines can set up which tags will show up as being posted to their content.
New migrants please be patient. This is a lot like Nov 2022. It will be choppy, but get sorted out. This is another golden opportunity to break down corporate social media.

How do you interact with kbin from mastodon? Interactions between mastodon instances seems very intuitive, just like between kbin instances. But I feel like I need an ELI5 for how to go back and forth between kbin/mastodon.
@crystalcorvid this is kind of a guess, not real sure if I'm right, but I think mastodon content shows up in your kbin feed. You can search hashtags on kbin like you can on mastodon. And if youre scrolling mastodon and want to find a particular person you just search @username instance here on kbin and it should populate their stuff on here.
It took me ages and I hated the process but I absolutely love it. It's very dense. The base fabric was a peice of curtain. The yarns are a mix of what ever I could find. I bought some new and found some 2nd hand or was given them. It took a looooooot of yarn....
What's your Sci-Fi unpopular opinion?
It's a slightly click-baity title, but as we're still generating more content for our magazines, this one included, why not?...
I have a theory, the current doctor when you started watching is your favorite doctor. Would this apply to you?

Is there a way to log on to Matrix using my kbin or is kbin not connected to Matrix the way it is to mastodon and Lemmy?
