Right now, we are frequently posting contents and interacting with the communities in order to make Fediverse more alive and more "social" as social media. But really, compared to Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, we probably don't even exist....
@joed There are multiple RSS reader that you can self host. I personally use a Nextcloud extention called "News". It's not the best one, but I already self-host Nextcloud so it was super easy to add it.
I'm sure if you search online you'll find multiple. If you like the Yunohost project, there seems to be multiple results if you search for "rss" in their app catalog.
I understand the feeling. I'm sure you have lots to offer even if you don't know about it yet ;)
I agree with Akasazh. I met my first partner at 24 and it lasted 7 years before we realized it would be better to split. It took me a long time (4 years) to find someone else, at age 36. Age doesn't matter: people find love even past 70! (my grandma!)

I decided to do a bit of a dive into this platform, and while I think it is an interesting idea, I am yet to find a space on Lemmy where I am welcome. I am an artist. I have a Patreon that pays my bills and puts food on the table. Generally, I give the majority of my stuff away for free to the community, but that usually comes...
Hey everyone, I see a lot of people throwing around the term "enshittification" to describe the long-term and systemic decline of many of the centralized social media platforms, most recently Reddit. I commented this elsewhere, but thought everyone might benefit for reading Cory Doctorow's original article coining the term. The...
I'm asking because some people (ex: my mom) would react badly to using such word just because there's "shit" in it. But with a different word, she might get it and use it.
I'm not good enough in english to find something better...
I think the biggest thing we need to figure out is how to make it sound easier than people say it is. People get too hung up on the technicalities of how the fediverse works, and they never try it out and see that it isn't as confusing as it sounds. If we could write up a simple blurb to help promote kbin to subreddit moderators...
@lurkeymclerkface@Xathonn Federation means that servers are independent, but they work together. It's like with emails: your provider (ex: Gmail) can still communicate with other servers (ex: Outlook or Yahoo or iCloud, etc)
Anyone can start a new Kbin or Lemmy or Mastodon server if they don't like the existing ones, and people are still able to talk with each others on other servers.
The fediverse has always grown in waves and we're at the start of one. It's worth looking at what tactics worked well in the past, to use them again or adapt them and build on them. It's also valuable to look at what went wrong or didn't work out as well in the past, to see if there are ways to do better....
The good news is that the Fediverse is open and will always be so, over time, apps will exists. There are already dozens of apps for Mastodon. As more people use Lemmy and Kbin, more devs will want to make apps for them.
The lemmyverse sounds perfect, but it ignores alternatives like kbin etc. It would be better if we didn't end up with the situation we have with Mastodon where people assume Mastodon is the fediverse....
This site is currently struggling to handle the amount of new users. I have already upgraded the server, but it will go down regardless if half of Reddit tries to join....
That's why it's recommended to direct people to the list of servers here: https://join-lemmy.org/instances instead of directing them to a specific server.
I believe more and more people will escape to lemmy sooner or later, and I already see 3 different communities for the same thing (selfhosted) here on lemmy. Time will tell which one will be the most active, but lets assume all of them will be equally active and the desire emerges to combine the two communities about the same...
I don't know how Lemmy or Kbin work internally, but I believe merging 2 communities could be similar to a user migrating to another server. Account migration on the Fediverse works by having the old account being setup as a pointer to the new account, effectively merging the old one into the new one. Followers of the old account will automatically follow the new account.
Since Lemmy and Kbin's communities are, behind the scene, like user accounts boosting messages posted in them, you can see how a community could be marked as "migrating" into the new one.
Another option would be for a community A to automatically boost/repost all posts from a community B, effectively bringing all messages of B into A.
Note that these are pure speculation on my part. I don't know if any of this is possible 😅
Why isn't anyone talking about this? It looks like Meta wants to compete with Twitter with a new Instagram microblogging app which will probably be compatible with Mastodon...

Ah, they're called "magazines", i see.
But that list seems pretty baren. Does it show groups/magazines from other instances or only the Local ones? Does it shows groups/magazines from Lemmy?

How can we smooth out the migration and help promote kbin/lemmy to subreddits and redditors?
