I didn't know this was a thing, but I love it. HoMM3 was one of my all time favorites and have logged a ton of hours in it on Windows.

not sure how relevant this is to your interests, but there was a boardgame version on kickstarter recently: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/archonstudio/homm3boardgame.

now that the initial wave has died down, maybe take a breather and stop posting topics like, "What I think Kbin needs to do..." and "The problem with Kbin / Lemmy..." and "How do we get X from reddit...". Post about what you like, rather than what you think the platform needs.

we’ve replaced all of our writers with large language models acting as writing assistants. Let’s see if anyone notices…

Apple really missed the boat when they acquired Beats headphones. They should have called them Beets.

Halo: Infinite. Why oh why did they have to give Spartans cat ears?

I'm a happy feedbin user too. Using NetNewsWire on my iOS devices for reading, and the Feedbin web app on Windows. I love it!

edit: Bah! What is the correct format to link to communities / magazines on other servers? Will update when I figure it out.

yeah, I haven't found the right syntax for linking to external communities. It looks like @ community/magazine @ server.name should work, but it's not getting the links right.

are we calling major label releases indie now? hmm.

I'm not using it because I don't want to contribute to their Daily Active User count, a metric that will absolutely be used leading up to their IPO. If that goes down due to their bad decisions, it will be worse for them.

but you do you.

it's in "adweek". A publication about advertising. They only care about content as a thing to monetize.

/kbin - a few quick announcements

Good morning! :) Today I want to focus mainly on reviewing the pull requests you've submitted. There are many great things there that will help improve the kbin experience. That's amazing, thank you! I'm also in the final stages of sorting out the infrastructure-related formalities. Soon, the situation with the website's...

Thanks Ernest. You've made something amazing and are doing a fantastic job keeping everything running. Much appreciated. I definitely plan to contribute.

Just have to say that I’m super impressed that kbin survived yesterday’s onslaught and ongoing poking attempts from spambots and attackers. The cloudflare front end is a minor annoyance but worth it given that the site is still up and running. Kudos to @ernest!

just noticing you have to scroll to get to the comment box.

I’m not sad. I’m fucking angry! Reddit was what it was because of the community behind it. Yes it was sketchy in places. There were extremely questionable subreddits and outright hostile moderators camping some very important, high visibility subs (hello, r/canada). But it was invaluable as a place for local news and goings-on and for niche communities and special interests. There was nothing like it, and now it’s fucked.

I won’t be going back except to delete my account. Good riddance. I’m done with it.

These are all good.

Having seen a few subreddits get taken over by tyrannical mods, I’d like to see some kind of active oversight, or meta moderation. Not sure how that could be implemented. Maybe a voting consensus built into the sub / magazine / community.

Activity and the user experience are both important. Variety too. Special Interest Groups are important.

Region focused communities are another area that deserve attention, though they could be served by geographically based instances.
