now that the initial wave has died down, maybe take a breather and stop posting topics like, "What I think Kbin needs to do..." and "The problem with Kbin / Lemmy..." and "How do we get X from reddit...". Post about what you like, rather than what you think the platform needs.
And why? For me its definitely Warcraft 3 Reforged. They literally made a quick money grab AND you can't even play online the old W3 without having to download 30gb of trash.
And how do you optimize your workflow based on the feeds? Extra thanks if you are working as an academic researcher gathering feeds from different journals
yeah, I haven't found the right syntax for linking to external communities. It looks like @ community/magazine @ server.name should work, but it's not getting the links right.
ironically, as of writing it has not self-destructed for... 37 months, 7 days, 9 hours, and 32 minutes, but this is a cool project. like most of the people who have heard of this, i heard about it at the peak of COVID. it seems it found quite a niche.
I'm not using it because I don't want to contribute to their Daily Active User count, a metric that will absolutely be used leading up to their IPO. If that goes down due to their bad decisions, it will be worse for them.
Good morning! :) Today I want to focus mainly on reviewing the pull requests you've submitted. There are many great things there that will help improve the kbin experience. That's amazing, thank you! I'm also in the final stages of sorting out the infrastructure-related formalities. Soon, the situation with the website's...
Thanks Ernest. You've made something amazing and are doing a fantastic job keeping everything running. Much appreciated. I definitely plan to contribute.
Just have to say that I’m super impressed that kbin survived yesterday’s onslaught and ongoing poking attempts from spambots and attackers. The cloudflare front end is a minor annoyance but worth it given that the site is still up and running. Kudos to @ernest!
I have been joking to a couple of friends today who were also redditors that I've been feeling withdrawals from reddit throughout the day. Like I knew I was addicted, I just never thought I was going to have to face the consequences of withdrawals!...

I’m not sad. I’m fucking angry! Reddit was what it was because of the community behind it. Yes it was sketchy in places. There were extremely questionable subreddits and outright hostile moderators camping some very important, high visibility subs (hello, r/canada). But it was invaluable as a place for local news and goings-on and for niche communities and special interests. There was nothing like it, and now it’s fucked.
I won’t be going back except to delete my account. Good riddance. I’m done with it.
Having seen a few subreddits get taken over by tyrannical mods, I’d like to see some kind of active oversight, or meta moderation. Not sure how that could be implemented. Maybe a voting consensus built into the sub / magazine / community.
Activity and the user experience are both important. Variety too. Special Interest Groups are important.
Region focused communities are another area that deserve attention, though they could be served by geographically based instances.
