@andymcmillan@kissane Similar, have a wonderful friend who often fosters. She does have her own dog (who has the same eyes as yours, omg 😍), which may be a consideration for you both, but he's been around for the fostering. Also she's lovely herself :)
(and while I'm here, Andy jfyi I'm so gutted my trip back to PDX this year doesn't align with XOXO! 😭)
#PDX nerds: I'm embarking on a home #networking project and need about 250 ft of quality solid copper #Cat6 (or better) cable. Before I buy new, is anyone holding? Anyone with a half-used spool gathering dust in the garage? I'd much rather buy someone's leftovers. Thanks!
"Another issue with this specific case, according to what Kuehn has learned in the days since he was hit, is that the bollards at SE Ivon and SE Spokane are routinely removed by City of Portland work crews and vandals."
This is why I post so often about UC Davis employees taking these out. And it's so hard to get people to take it seriously until someone has already been hurt (and sometimes not even then).
As we do some last packing away of the house clutter into the garage before the realtor photographer arrives, and thinking to our move out of Portland after 12 years, I think back to when my daughter was a small child here and whenever she drew our house she included gray rain clouds above instead of sun. 😂 #pdx
I'm pretty mad at you today, Portland. 😡 This city has wholly undeserved reputation for progressive politics. Exhibit A: voting for a fucking Republican for DA. Fuck every one of you reactionary assholes.
I'm so tired of this city. If I wanted to live with a bunch of reactionary assholes, I could live in any other city in this country.
Hey PDX folks! What local organization(s) do you think is/are doing the most effective job at combating homelessness? I'd like to donate a portion of my new raise.
"Portland Cider Company’s Original Gold Cider received the best-in-class trophy at the International Brewing and Cider Awards yesterday in London. This is the first time in the competition’s 136-year history that a U.S. cidery has won."
Quick story about a #PDX neighbor. Was walking my dog this morning and passed by a man slumped on top of a bicycle on the ground sleeping. Checked to make sure he was alive; he looked dehydrated. Went back to give him food and water, check on him again. Then PPB rolled up us cuz some other neighbor called the cops on him. He was getting up, said he was ok, didn’t need medical. Cop took off thankfully, seeing he had food and water from me and was alert and able to carry on.
Here’s an idea for everyone to chew on. MAYBE TRY TALKING TO PEOPLE AND HELPING THEM BEFORE YOU CALL THE COPS ON THEM. The guy was trying to sleep, was likely super dehydrated and malnourished. It’s trash day in our hood, and that always brings people around looking thru recycling for cans. Dude was out canning and his body needed rest. #mutualaid#MutualDefense
Got myself a one-person feast at Desi Bites in #Beaverton! 😆🎉 They’re not “Abhiruchi level” (i.e. the best #Indian food in all of #PDX, except located in Vancouver WA) but I loved getting a bit of everything with their vegetarian thali which comes with a single bite of dessert - the perfect portion! The egg curry was a bit too sweet for me, but I’m coming back for #vegan sambar on Tuesdays!
(I went to see Monkey Man afterwards, which sadly contained 0% Indian food… but 500% Dev Patel! 🇮🇳🔥)
@agnes Looks so good! Will add these to our list for when we visit the city again. When we visited #PDX last summer, we went to Bhuna and Bollywood Theater. Have you been to either?
We were struck by the idea of a Kashmiri restaurant in the US (Bhuna). So unusual for Indian in the US.
Bollywood Theater probably had the best service we've EVER had at a restaurant in the US. We both thought the food there was pretty top notch (and many dishes comparable to what we might get in India).
Portland's Street Books, a bicycle-powered library for unhoused folks, has a fundraising campaign going through the end of May. Here's a bit of the program's history, courtesy of Literary Hub.
