For anyone who hates #Trump (most, I hope?), you'll be delighted to know that MeidasTouch has turned on their #Threads federation and can be followed from Mastodon and other Fediverse apps via @meidastouch
Offer void where prohibited by Admin law
While they have a Mastodon account on mstdn.social (@MeidasTouch), they seemed to have stopped posting with it back in September, sadly.
@Jerry@MeidasTouch@GottaLaff@jaykuo Wonder how easy it'd be to crosspost to Threads+Mastodon. I'd assume it would be pretty erasy but someone would need to make a thing.
Some people say that Meta makes Threads federate with Mastodon so it would eventually siphon its users (see #EEE).
That's one of the reasons several Mastodon instance admins decided to preventively block Threads (see #Fedipact).
I think that keeping some Mastodon users from interacting with Threads might on the contrary push them away from their instance and maybe go to Threads instead, what we want to avoid in the first place.
Today’s exhibit: people on #Threads complain that it’s not good for news, example yesterday. We know that, because Meta has said over and over they de-emphasize news.
But that’s what the #fediverse is for! Somebody will build the worlds best news feed and you can subscribe right there from Threads (once they are done with their ActivityPub implementation) and any other fediverse application.
Let's say that we want to help people to leave #Threads suggesting their own server. Is there any #fediverse hw or sw solution running out of the box, including domain acquisition?
Have you heard of any arguments from #threads users for not turning on federation? I can't imagine one. Any failure to do so yet has to be people who haven't heard of it or don't understand what it is. #SocialWeb
@wjmaggos by enabling federation you open yourself up to the perverts and infidels in the fediverse. if people ban books, people definitely believe that
So if I got that right, #Threads wants you to sing up to get API access to their walled garden using your (a?) google account?
So I guess there will be API-keys involved?
@kikobar tried on my instance - only followed a couple and yes it adds a considerable amount of traffic straight away....
No shock but threads is a brute force activitypub implementation already
We wrote a guide to help #Threads users better understand what the #Fediverse is, and how it works.
A lot of people over there are enthusiastic about Fedi, but need to have things explained in a way that makes sense to newcomers. This is part of our public education campaign to help people find their bearings.
