I'm watching the Jubilee "middle ground" episode (https://youtu.be/9FCixSEjUJ8?si=DuChJz4SMpmWVCYn) about #Autism and something the mum of one of the Autistic folks said sent me off on a "maybe I'm not #ActuallyAutistic" imposter syndrome spiral, so I'm gonna vent my issues with it here.

Basically she was talking about Autism being "trendy" now and "the spectrum" including anybody whether they only have sensory issues and nothing else, etc.

alexisbushnell,
@alexisbushnell@toot.wales avatar

She specifically mentioned a TikToker who has a degree and is successful in his job and has a family as an example of someone who isn't "really" Autistic but is going for a diagnosis "because it's trendy."

Here's the thing; I mostly function. That is part;y why I'm 36 and only just understanding that I'm .
I did really well in school because by chance I ended up (mostly) in schools that suited my flavour of Autism and the spikes in my skills profile are largely academic.

A5 oh I'm so bad at these type of questions, partly because I take them literally and partly because I don't have the survival skills to know what would be most useful!

Erm...

  1. A swiss army knife because that covers lots of things I might need.

  2. A spade or trowel or something like that for digging up ground and gardening to grow food.

  3. I'm stuck now!

A4 A teleporter - duh! Teleportation has always been my "if you could have the future now" type thing. Most of my friends are scattered around the world and if I could teleport I could go see them so easily!

I would also like a holodeck but that's not a form of transportation - unless you consider being transported into your imagination transport...!

A3 Nothing. I absolutely love throwing stuff out and using stuff up. I hate having tonnes of stuff around. So much so that most of the material I'm keeping to start my sewing journey is in storage for when we move because I know I'm not going to do it before we move so I wanted it out of the way!

I have a lot of yarn that people have kindly donated but it's not hoarded, I'm just slowly working my way through it.

The only think I "hoard" is unicorns, I guess!

A1 Hi Makers! I'm Lexi (she/her). I'm making progress on the scarf I'm knitting for my stepdad. I've not been knitting as much lately because of the stress with TiLi being ill, but she's doing better now so I'm picking it up more again.

My main win this week is my vegetables (https://toot.wales/@alexisbushnell/112269171681030980 ), I have some exciting new growth.

Urgh I'm so stressed and overwhelmed and stressed that I really want to go for a run today but I also don't want to overdo it (which I have a tendency to do) and my Garmin is telling me I still need another 12 hours rest after the last one.

@alexisbushnell@toot.wales avatar

@purplepadma I walked the dogs and did some yoga already. I need something with more oomph I think.

With the spring but also a warmer winter because of , our composting worm population has exploded.

It is time to expand the worm farm and create more worm bins.

The amount of waste that we have processed never ceases to amaze me. It is a fantastic tool to help us fight the .

is without a question my favorite way to compost as we can get a final product in just a few weeks.

@compost I'm hoping to get a worm composting set up sorted this year.

Wind is literally the worst weather in the entire world. It's immediate sensory overwhelm for me. I can't cope with it at all. There's no escape from it; even inside you still have the noise of the wind and all the noise it creates throwing things around.
I hate it and I want it to go away forever.

It seems that I'm better at dealing with major life or death emergencies that every day struggles. Why is that? Is that autistic thing?

@actuallyautistic

alexisbushnell,
@alexisbushnell@toot.wales avatar

@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic yep, same. I think because for bigger issues I have, or can find, a blueprint for what to do. Whereas for day to day stuff it's just anything goes but somehow actually not anything goes and I have no idea what's happening.

Well I've tried on some shoes and ordered them to be delivered, should be with me in 2-3 working days and I can start .

Is 10 weeks too short a time to train for a 5k or 10k from nothing?

alexisbushnell,
@alexisbushnell@toot.wales avatar

Well I decided fuck waiting for my running trainers to arrive, I want to get out there and try it. So I put my old Skechers on and we did it!!!

I actually didn't hate it and found it easier than I thought I would. I thought we had another set of run/walk left when my watch was like "cool down."

Also thank you to the runner we passed who gave both me and Morrie a thumbs up!

We made it to Friday , so I'm asking you to share the kindness you've seen this week.
From carrying someone's bags to supporting someone through a crisis, I'd love to hear about it.

If you're happy for your story to be shared on Time for Kindness, please say so. But don't be afraid to share if you aren't - let's celebrate kindness in all shapes and sizes.

Planted up some seeds today as part of learning to .

Potatoes I planted in February and some seem to have taken - am just hoping the compost is deep enough for them.

Garlic I planted in December and again, hoping it's deep enough.

Carrots in the wellies! lol! Broccoli in a pot. Kale and extra carrots in the space the potatoes and garlic didn't take.

Also more things sprouting, I think it's kale. And my onion is straitening up now it's planted - I did position it so it would grow towards the sun and this straighten up.

Some large brown, flat but curling in fungi growing out of a compost pile under some cardboard.

Several small saplings sprouting in a tub filled with compost beside some potato plants.
