The JWST team recently released this image of Saturn's moon Enceladus, showing water plumes extending out 10,000 km, 20 times the size of the moon itself, which creates a fuzzy torus of water particles around the orbit of Enceladus.
The inset shows a mosaic of Enceladus and its water jets, based on images taken by the Cassini orbiter in 2009.
Let's learn more about Enceladus and examine why the JWST image is so low-res and pixelated.

I did it! I've spun up some servers in Linode, and I now have a landing page. I also spun up a Piped instance for personal use. Anyone have more cloud-hosted service recommendations?

codrusofathens,
@codrusofathens@linuxrocks.online avatar

@benjaminhollon Mostly just stuff my family will be able to use... Backups would be nice, and maybe some sort of communication thing. My mother wants to migrate her blog, too.

I'm gonna go poke through the awesome-selfhosted repo to see what I can find...

In this week's , and News video, we have proposing to drop X11 when Plasma 6 is out, a nasty vulnerability in and its fingerprint reader implementation, receiving an enormous $1.3B fine from the EU, and Intel proposing a new x86 architecture that would drop bare metal support for 32 and 16 bit:

@thelinuxEXP "...and thus, increase margins."

"You didn't imagine that any production cost savings would actually be passed on to the consumer, right?"

LOL. I busted a gut when you got to that part! Fantastic production as always. Thank you!

Sooooo….

Final grades are in; I got a 4.0 this last semester.

For three of this classes I was right on the line, so I’m glad it tipped this way. I’ll try to give myself more margin in the future.

codrusofathens,
@codrusofathens@linuxrocks.online avatar

@benjaminhollon Awesome! I got a 4.0 as well, which is far and away the best I've ever had since starting high school. I got a 74% on one math exam, but the prof offered grade replacement using the final. My final exam score was a 94, and I walked out with a 97% in the class.

Never did well in math before, but this class (real people instead of online) has my hopes up!

Time for the and News video!
This week, we have more details about @system76 Cosmic desktop, with a lot of customization for their panels, we have going full FOSS for their firmware, and some interesting changes in the defaults for @kde Plasma 6!

@thelinuxEXP @system76 @kde @tlenewspodcast Thank you sir! I look forward to seeing what's new every time I see these in my feed! You've got the perfect voice for this job. Very professionally done!

I sit here, in an empty void
But if I am in void, do I really sit?

Can I exist, if I exist in no place,
With nothing around providing input?

Can a mind be a mind if it does not receive information?
Who am I really?

Is this what it means to be a ghost?

This is gonna be a fun one; we're finishing up with an arrangement of a bunch of John Williams tunes.

    When I was growing up I was lucky that we had some really great sci-fi that asked big questions and explored philosophical concepts like TNG and SG-1. They were entertaining and sometimes campy shows but they asked you to consider a thing and expand your mind and it was dope

    @codrusofathens@linuxrocks.online avatar

    @danirabbit Ooh. 100% this. I hadn't really thought of that as the missing element, but it is. NuTrek does more affirmation of beliefs than challenging...

    Someone please follow @benjaminhollon ASAP. He accidentally started an informal competition to see which linux/FOSS-oriented servers would give him the most follows, and we can get linuxrocks.online into spot number 10 with two more follows! 🙂

    @wwwgem @benjaminhollon The whole thing was a joke! LOL. Who cares where someone else's followers come from...? I meant it to be funny, and am not concerned with people who take things too seriously. We're tech people. We're the definition of laid-back!

    I was curious how federated my followers are, so I wrote up a script to get a list of all of them so I can do analysis. I need to figure out a good way to do statistical analysis, but for a very basic beginning, here are the top 10 instances y'all are coming from:

    fosstodon.org: 684
    mastodon.social: 62
    infosec.exchange: 24
    hachyderm.io: 19
    mstdn.social: 19
    mas.to: 16
    writing.exchange: 13
    social.linux.pizza: 12
    mastodon.online: 11
    mastodon.sdf.org: 10

    codrusofathens,
    @codrusofathens@linuxrocks.online avatar

    @benjaminhollon Aww, dang! linux.rocks didn't make it on the top 10. But I think I like small instances. It always feels more like home... Cool analysis!

    codrusofathens,
    @codrusofathens@linuxrocks.online avatar

    @benjaminhollon LOL. I'll try! 😄
