Hey! I'm an open source fanboy who uses FOSS software to produce and FOSS platforms to share content.

Big fan of GNU/Linux, busybox/Linux, LibreWolf, Krita, OBS and other open source software.

A beginner web developer (kinda)

BREAKING!

You might saw my post that I'm looking for another Fediverse instance which bans Threads as I disagree with "giving Threads a chance".

Now, I finally found an instance, social.linux.pizza which welcomes tech related content and does suspend Threads.net

This is probably my last post on this account so follow my new profile @fosserytech if you don't want to miss my future posts.
I'll migrate there today or tomorrow (depending on how it goes).

We so desperately need an independent modern browser.

Could Mozilla please get their cranio-rectal intrusion fixed post-haste? Pretty please?

fosserytech,
@fosserytech@mstdn.social avatar

@phryk @rysiek I use LibreWolf. It's basically a hardened Firefox and actively maintained, community driven, is only 2-4 days behind the latest release of Firefox

fosserytech,
@fosserytech@mstdn.social avatar

@Gabryx86_64 @phryk @rysiek then your only option is manually hardened Firefox I guess

This has probably been done before, but I'm still curious how the OS spread is on the fedi.

What are you running on your main* personal desktop/laptop?

Boost for reach please! 😍

  • The machine you use the most. 😉
fosserytech,
@fosserytech@mstdn.social avatar

@n3wjack Currently Linux (Debian) for everything. Hopefully I can use Linux for my future work.
If not, I would probably choose Windows (and ask for a computer because I don't want it to overwrite Linux on my personal machine after an update lol), because that's what I used before Linux, and I'm somewhat familiar with it. Never used Mac.
Btw Haiku is missing from the poll (I saw it on StackOverflow survey so it seems like some developers prefer it lol)

fosserytech,
@fosserytech@mstdn.social avatar

@n3wjack I just searched it and seems it's still like that. Haven't tried it though, I installed 12 a few months ago.

I tell you this right now, I always forget why having Plasma and Gnome on the same install is a bad idea. Now I remember. lol. Gotta go fix this if I'm going to stick with Gnome.

"[GNU/]Linux being secure is a common misconception in the security and privacy realm."

https://madaidans-insecurities.github.io/linux.html

"[GNU/]Linux is thought to be secure primarily because of its source model, popular usage in servers, small userbase and confusion about its security features. This article is intended to debunk these misunderstandings".

Based on this, one should try to do as much as possible on a GrapheneOS device

@privacy

fosserytech,
@fosserytech@mstdn.social avatar

@jlou @privacy No OS is fully secure. Windows and MacOS also have several security holes. It's also a common misconception among people that MacOS is so secure and perfect but it's not.

what should I do with it?

Best comment (I decide which one is best) I do.

Edit: a few technical details might be useful:
3gb RAM overall.
HP pavilion something.

And please boost I wanna hear all interesting ideas

update since people still comment here: probably gonna install a lightweight distro for daily usage with DE, and bring it to the base.

recommendations?
