Ilie Dumitrescu on 's move to :

"It is an extraordinary transfer for him and for Romania. He is the fourth Romanian to arrive there and I have great confidence that he made the perfect choice”

Obviously Gica Popescu and Dumitrescu were Romanians 1&2. Pub quiz time: who was the third?

beingreal,

If you compare our car crash with the season our noisy neighbours are having, can they really be satisfied that 14 games in, over one third of the season gone, that they are only 6 points ahead of us.

Going along at 2.4 pts per game they are going to find it difficult to increase that pace whereas, with a full squad again we certainly should.

I'm optimistic

Wish I'd watched the footy - sounds like a bonkers game

trttr,

@mlawton @30yrdscreamer Jackson never looked sure of anything. Even afterwards he looked embarrassed.

Son has such a quick trigger, I also thought he had pulled it off. He immediately knew the counter was coming too....

mlawton,
@mlawton@mstdn.social avatar

@mike @30yrdscreamer that’s hilarious! 😂

beingreal,

It seems to me that the problem with VAR is time.

If it is clear and obvious it doesn't take long to resolve, but if it needs forensic analysis it can't be that clear and obvious so leave it alone.

When more than one minute has passed since the incident the refs decision should stand.

This 3 or 4 minute nonsense must stop.

TiffyBelle,

@beingreal Hard disagree. The right decision is more important than a fast decision.

beingreal,

@TiffyBelle

If, and it's a monster of an if, the extra time VAR takes produced the right outcome it would indeed be justifiable.

The truth is the version of VAR we currently have is no less flawed than refs were previously.

It does reduce the ref abuse, the directed vitriol, which is a VAR plus.

I like the idea of Jrue Holiday on the . That would really turn the Spurs around on D if they don’t give too much.

How much do you think require from the Spurs to trade him?

stevesplace,
@stevesplace@mastodon.social avatar

@mcnulla They want an MVP-quality player or 1st round draft picks. It will probably be a 3-team deal.

mcnulla,
@mcnulla@techhub.social avatar

@stevesplace
I figured Jrue isn’t on their time line. They prolly want youth/potential. Spurs have so much of that.

Wemby is off limits. Doesn’t make sense to trade Vassell. There are a lot of combos that might work after that. The issue is spurs & blazers are competing to be young, slightly different time lines. Best trades help both teams.

GameIsGloryPod,

@hallenbeck @spurs I think that some of the thinking on selection last weekend may be down to the internationals and how much travelling players had done. I think that Perisic and Richy may be good options against teams that sit back

hallenbeck,
@hallenbeck@mastodon.online avatar

@GameIsGloryPod @spurs

Will be interesting to see how much of a horses-for-courses approach Ange takes in future. I see a lot of flexibility for solving problems up front.

I was 50/50 on the selection. Ange is unafraid to make bold, surprising selections, but what with the noise around Richy, it seemed like a gamble with a lot of downside if he'd started him and it backfired.

The story played out perfectly in the end, so all good.

I have been a Spurs supporter for quite a while, but I’m an American, and my connection to the team is not, possibly, as organic as someone who lives there.

I literally picked them. Because I was mad at some Arsenal supporters who were making antisemitic jokes on an EPL discussion board.

Then I had a roommate who supported Chelsea and I didn’t like him either.

The rest is Pascal’s Wager. Eventually it becomes emotionally real, and then instinctive.

TiffyBelle,

We've looked so much more dangerous with Son at number 9. Solomon has also had a great game in his first start.

I know we're not playing City or anything, but this is the most dangerous have looked on attack with this setup than in other games with at 9.

@spurs

TiffyBelle,

@chrisbegley @spurs Guess we'll find out with the sub.

SwellWines,
@SwellWines@epicure.social avatar

@TiffyBelle @spurs It makes you wonder how Ange will fit Johnson into the mix. Arsenal will be the true test.

beingreal,

Naturally there are youngsters who assumed that when Harry went a huge name would replace him.
Life ain't like that.
Without CL football we have to build toward the next Harry.

I'm happy with Ange and the clubs trajectory. But will Danny boy keep his nerve when things get tough? He has form for overreacting.

Getting Rodrigo Bentancur fit again is like another signing.

KEEP THE FAITH

@beingreal

And Biss is looking like a new £100m midfielder.

And Sarr looking like he could be too.

Sarr, Porro, Udogie, Brennan are all young with high ceilings.

Veliz and Philips look like good bets.

I'm hoping Scott Munn will make a difference to how the football is led at the club.

“Enjoying” these new Spurs third kits.

Many have asked, what the hell is that color?

I’d probably call the color “US Army pink”, after the drab trousers worn as part of the service dress uniform in the 1940s. There was a faint pinkish hue in the khaki. The army informally called the uniform “pinks and greens”.

Anyway, that kit is awful, and I hope I never see it again.

@spurs

Tottenham Hotspur’s new third uniform, in the shade Nike calls “Taupe Haze.” The dull color resembles that of the trousers worn with the Army’s “pinks and greens” uniform.

[888sport] Fabrizio Romano on the Kane Saga

My take: PLEASE LET IT BE OVER SOON. I DON'T CARE EITHER WAY

(actually, i am really fascinated to see how well he does overseas, wish him nothing but success and many trophies, but I don't care insofar as are concerned - i just want the endless harry kane noise to end one way or another)

Joker likes the challenge of Wemby; he has 15 points and eight rebounds after one quarter. Wemby’s doing well, too, with 12 and six. 30, 23, end of the first quarter. @nba

cwgrody,
@cwgrody@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

It’s not often you see the same shot blocked twice, but Watson and Jordan just did it. on a 7-0 run to tie the game, though. @nba

cwgrody,
@cwgrody@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

Fun matchup between Joker and Wemby. Joker said, “He blocked six or seven of my shots.”

But Wemby didn’t block enough. Joker finished with 42 points, 16 rebounds and six assists, and he got a lot of help from Aaron Gordon (23 points, seven boards) and Michael Porter Jr. (15 points, career-high 16 rebounds).

Wemby, meanwhile, filled up the stat sheet with 23 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists and nine blocks.

Final score: 110, 105. Next up: At the Thursday. @nba

cwgrody,
@cwgrody@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

Wemby will score 35 a night when he finally realizes that a deep three early in the shot clock is a bad shot for him. 12, 12, mid-first quarter. @nba

cwgrody,
@cwgrody@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

The lead by one, but you can’t say the are mailing it in. Joker and Murray have 24 of ’s 31 first-quarter points. @nba

cwgrody,
@cwgrody@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

That was like making a double bogey one hole after making an eagle. Kudos to the on the comeback. The need help now for the top seed in the West. 🤷‍♂️ @nba
