lemmydripzdotz123, to politics in 'What’s happening is not organic': Why the right thinks Taylor Swift is a government PsyOp designed to swing the 2024 election

Jordan Sather, a prominent promoter of the QAnon conspiracy theory, suggested that Swift’s life had been orchestrated as part of a sinister plot to encourage her fans to vote.

There a few other people quoted in there but it’s all the same sinister plan they are proposing: The psyop is encouraging people to vote.

Republicans see large voter turnout as a bad thing because they are less popular than they want you to think they are. This is not new, it’s just a new target.

Swift’s life had been orchestrated as part of a sinister plot to encourage her fans to vote.

Reminds me of the time Republicans in some local election had sent out a mailer smearing the Dem candidate. There was a big box on one part of the card, in a large font against a dark background proclaiming that the Dem candidate wanted to "Educate and Transform you!"

Well, I thought, do your donors know you are campaigning for the Democrat?

I think that’s deliberate language designed to get voters to distrust truth and facts.

Oh for sure. Vilifying education as indoctrination is core to their platform.

Shrubs_did_911,

they are less popular than they want you to think they are.

With all do respect, you are definitely wrong about that. According to Gallup's most recent polls a few months ago, 36% of Americans identify as "Conservative", 37% as "Moderate", and only 25% as "left wing".

Last that I checked, 36% > 25%; but I could be wrong... (no).

There is a historical phenomenon where moderate and independent voters overwhelming vote right wing during general and mid term elections. Anywhere from 66% - 75% of independents end up voting Republican.

That's the problem with your view point. You are likely projecting and don't realize it. That's okay, as it's normal psychology that you're nervous that your world view is no where near as popular as you wish that it were. That's a coping mechanism that makes people feel more positive in their belief system and to avoid feel depress or losing hope that your opponents are just... more popular and you don't understand how or why.

Couldn't find their new poll from two months ago, but the one in my link has the exact same results.

Republicans don't want election officials to get overwhelmed with too many potentially fraudulent registrations. Voter fraud, election fraud, and voter suppression is rampant on both sides and add too many voters too soon makes it far harder to fix these problems.

If the left would only just agree to pass sweeping voter ID laws in all 50 states, then Republicans like me would have no problem ramping up voter turnout because Republicans will win by far larger margins than we currently do if there is little fraud.

Democrats say that they want to be "...more like Europe..." on a million different issues? Well, all 44 European countries have voter ID laws. So what is the problem?

This is the only major sole issue that prevents Republicans from ramping up voter turnout.

Semi-Hemi-Demigod,

Voter fraud, election fraud, and voter suppression is rampant on both sides and add too many voters too soon makes it far harder to fix these problems.

This is incorrect

For example, after the 2020 election, a months’-long analysis by the AP found fewer than 475 cases of potential voter fraud in the six battleground states challenged by Trump (here). For context, there were over 3.3 million votes casted for the presidential run in Arizona alone, the state AP found had the highest number of potential fraud cases (198) ( here ). The AP also found no signs of a coordinated effort and reported that “virtually every case was based on an individual acting alone to cast additional ballots.”

NounsAndWords, to politics in 'What’s happening is not organic': Why the right thinks Taylor Swift is a government PsyOp designed to swing the 2024 election

Lazy projection. The Trump campaign was already literally part of Russian PsyOps a decade ago.

Candelestine,

Exactly.

C’mon now, we all know the primary thrust of their attacks/defenses is always “I know you are, but what am I?”. By far the most common. It’s used like half the time.

Tolookah,

Isn’t it more "I know I am, but what are you?

Shrubs_did_911,

Three consecutive FBI Special Councils have already proven that there was zero evidence to connect Trump to Russia. Literally it was all fake.

Hillary Clinton is the one that sold Russian state owned company Rosatom 50% of America's uranium stock piles during the Uranium One scandal. Eric Holder illegally helped Hillary to cover up her Quid Pro Quo.

The leaked DNC emails on WikiLeaks even showed DNC communications director Jennifer Palmieri admitted candidly that Hillary's corruption with the Russians was her biggest potential weakness that would hurt her 2016 presidential campaign.

Former DNC co-chair Donna Brazile admitted on CNN in an interview that the Clinton campaign made up the fake Trump-Russia story to distract voters. As CNN's own staff admitted in the Project Veritas videos, the Trump-Russia story was just a "nothing burger".

Hillary Clinton and the leftists are the only ones doing Machiavellian preemptive striking and projection. It's their modus operandi.

Vis a vis; up to 70% of left wingers are diagnosed with mental illness with antagonistic or malignant narcissist psychopathology chief among them.

Ipso facto; left wingers are thus "projection heavy individuals" --- what Sigmund Freud called "the only true evil nature in man".

According to the OSTI report and Oxford university studies, both peer reviewed studies have shown that only 8% of conservatives have been diagnosed with any mental illness, and 0.4% with narcissism. Compared to 68 - 70% of left wingers that those peer reviewed study talked about? The right is doing exceptionally well.

I would refrain from accusing "the right" of projecting when your party --- not you specifically, but your cohorts --- are chronic projectors.

Because of course this happened in Oklahoma…

It’s the only place I’ve ever been to that had two story single wide trailers… In tornado alley. That’s the level of sophistication we’re talking about here.

How can you expect ignorant hayseeds to comprehend the nuances of something like identity? The Native Americans they slaughtered while holding a Bible had two-spirit people, but that fact, no matter how well you prove it, will not stop them from hating and killing anyone that doesn’t wave their Bible, twist it into a cudgel, and use it to beat people down.

Maeve,

It’s not even the whole Bible, kjv 1611, Ethiopian, Qumran. Egypt, Sumerian but sure, one god, love blah blah.

SaintWacko,

As an Oklahoman… It’s even worse than you think. Walters is just straight up, cartoonishly evil. Every action he takes has absolutely nothing to do with the needs of the schools or the children, and instead is just designed to upset the LiBeRaLs as much as possible. We had an amazing superintendent, and Walters and his ilk forced her out after making her life and job miserable, and, as you may be able to tell, I’m still not over it. I wouldn’t cross the street to piss on him if he were on fire.

Hazzia,

But would you cross the street to pour a bottle of cheap liquor on him if he were on fire

LocoOhNo,

I was in Lawton for boot camp in 2001 and that brief amount of time was entirely too long.

I lived in Florida for a good portion of my life and if you can believe it, they’re worse. Just terrible people that think they can be assholes without consequence. Seems like the South is just full of people who will look you in the eye to tell you what great “Christians” they are while simultaneously being the worst people they can be. And they’re loud as fuck about it.

I’m gay and I can’t even be “out” because I would lose my job and likely my apartment and maybe worse. I don’t know of a State within traveling distance that isn’t full of homophobes that are just itching to kill the LGBTQ, especially my trans brothers and sisters.

All I can do is point out the hypocrisy and that isn’t even worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe one day “live and let live” will mean something again, but it won’t come from the American South.

tygerprints, to aboringdystopia in ‘I don’t know what else to do’: Carnival Cruise customer spent 2K on trip. Now that she’s passed away, they want a $1,300 cancellation fee

I doubt she can afford it but if so, she could try to bring a suit against Carnival Cruise lines. They hate negative publicity. Or talk to an AP reporter, maybe they could do a story about it. She could also start a GoFundMe to cover the cost of cancellation but I do hope Carnival Cruise gets a lot of flack for being so inflexible and insensitive and money hungry. Another example of how we get screwed because a large corporation with tons of money is unwilling to bend the rules a bit and must follow every word of their "you have to pay us this" script to the letter, no matter who suffers.

WarmSoda,

Why? All she needs to do is send them a copy of the death certificate. That’s how it works, they’re not asking for anything out of the ordinary. That’s simply what you do when someone passes away.

tygerprints,

Carnival Cruise lines has a net worth upward of $19 billion. I truly believe that it won't bankrupt them to bend the rules and cancel this fare once and for all without causing this undue hardship during this woman's period of grieving. Yes she can just send a death certificate, but if I were her there's be a big "FUCK YOU" note attached. And they could bill me (without success) for the remainder of my life as far as that goes.

WarmSoda,

No one has to bend any rules. Providing proof of death is an extremely basic process when someone passes away. Net worth, bankruptcy… None of that has any bearing at all on this situation.

You’re being extremely over dramatic for no reason.

tygerprints,

Obviously you are employed by Carnival and have to follow your pre coded script. But I'm right and no amount of assholery from you can change that fact.

WarmSoda,

I have never worked for Carnival of all places lol I just have common sense.

Look, if you think begging for everything is the way to go through life, have at it. But you don’t need to do that in this situation. It’s far easier to just send them the info and have it taken care of.

You do you, Karen. Good luck out there.

tygerprints,

Actually you're just a filthy degenerate father fucking piece of sick filth. So your feedback holds no interest for me. Go be an asshole to people who give a damn.

It says it could take up to 30 days. That doesn't mean that the refund might still not have been granted even post-cruise.

WarmSoda,

No. That’s not how things work.
The refund could take 30 days to go into her bank account. She would get the refund if she sent them the info like a normal person.

partial_accumen,

It says it would take 30 business days.

If Caitlin did want to try to get the original amount back, she’d have to email and send the death certificate to a specific email address, which may take up to 30 days to respond.

This kind of language usually means “Yes, we will refund you in full as you have notified us. However, this processes isn’t fast and it has the requirement of us receiving the Death Certificate and validating it on our side before we issue a refund.”

Did she specifically ask: “Okay, if I send in the request now to the email address you’ve given me, and I send the Death Certificate, does that mean I’ll be receiving the full refund even if your process takes time and the ship sails without them?”

partial_accumen,

For those that haven’t had to deal with handling the closing of accounts for someone that passed away, sending a Death Certificate is an extremely common request from a company. You usually should get 10 to 20 Death Certificates because many companies (especially banks) will require a real one, not a picture or email.

qyron,

My country blew a hole in that logic by making essentially any government issued document a virtual certificate accessible through a permanente code.

You can get one copy, scan and email it indefinetely and all entities receiving only need to check the permanent code online.

It was complete chaos when it rolled out, especially for old, outdated, progress resisting entities.

Hupf,

especially for old, outdated, progress resisting entities.

Like government agencies?

qyron,

Not really, in this case. It was the government issuing the new format, so it was the early adopter; some services are even interconnected and share information in real time.

In this case, it was more about banks, telecoms, energy and water companies.

cries in federal country

qyron,

This is one those things that intrigues me.

If joining a federal government, the principle implies there is the recognition there is something good to contribute for said federation but also handicaps the federation can assist in solving.

This follows that when one member of the federation develops a solution for a problem, other members emulate it. The same way, when the federal level develops a solution for a problem, all members apply it in the exact same terms: no if, but or commas.

Yet it seems this is never what happens when dealing with federal governance.

taladar,

What happens in practice is that any solution already developed by another member is basically taboo because the members do want to be seen as leading, not following so every member develops their own “solution” that is slightly different “just because”.

qyron,

Waste of:

  • time
  • money
  • brains
crushyerbones,

Hah I was about to say they tried this in Portugal but a lot of agencies (especially foreign ones) simply have no capacity to deal with digital certificates.

Hell I went to a public university a couple of years ago and they demanded I show them a stamped document proving that I’m employed.

qyron,

That’s a different beast. Private entities are still lacking on that front but catchinf on fast.

Shialac,

For real… maybe we will get something like that in germany in like a hundred years when they finally stop using fax machines lmao

roofuskit,

We don’t have that level of centralized documentation in the US. A death certificate is issued by a much smaller subdivision of locally controlled government. The federal government doesn’t issue them.

qyron,

You should.

Centralized documentation ensures accountability from the government to the citizens and vice versa.

In my little barbarian country, every child is born a citizen. If there is no possibility to registry a newborn at the hospital, through a special representation office that exists for that sole purpose on site, there is a time limit for the child to be registered; of failed, the parents face serious problems.

This simple gesture ensures the child exists and is accounted for. Social Security, Tax Number, NHS and personal identification number are immediatly issued.

In the same way, a death is immediatly reported and all those numbers are immediatly cancelled by the funeral agent - this is mandated by law. This ensures the identity can not be abused for nefarious purposes. Driving, mariner, pilot license, etc, follows the same logic.

All official documentation are centrally issued and accounted for. This even facilitates inter-agency exchange of information and speeds the issuing of social benefits and tax calculation.

A strong, transparent, central administration provides better services for the citizens.
