wood, to linux Got my first development environment (Jekyll website) running in NixOS on my Framework laptop using devenv. That makes this my first successful dev environment in nix. :) Nice work @domenkozar!

jlsksr, to linux Is there any text-based, ideally distributed monitoring software out there? I want a TUI that shows me (e.g. with green/red highlights) the reachability of hosts (simple ping checks) while I'm doing network maintenance. Like a really simple, curses based nagios? It would probably look like a bloomberg terminal.. (I know this wouldn't be too hard to implement.. but I can't really believe it's not already out there...) #linux #TUI #monitoring #network #networking #sysadmin #software #curses
Hi there, I will be taking, Red Hat Certified System Administrator and Red Hat Certified Engineer Certifications after the summer and am looking for some worthwhile resources to learn from. Anyone have any recommendations for this? I will get access to some “offical” resources from my work later, but want to brush up - up...
Uddelhexe, to linux Can anyone tell me if #clipstudiopaint is compatible with Linux? And if so: how tge performance is?
Similar question for the Huion Kamvas devices.
Experiences anyone?
Uddelhexe, Thanks👍🤗
adamsdesk, @Uddelhexe You're welcome.
nixCraft, to linux Learn how to fix this error: "SSH Authentication refused: bad ownership or modes for file ~/.ssh/authorized_keys" on your #Linux, #FreeBSD or #Unix box https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/openssh-server-authentication-refused-bad-ownership-or-modes/ 👇
nazokiyoubinbou, @nixCraft One thing I've always wondered is why group access isn't ok if the group is the user's own named group (eg if username is Person, the group name would be Person.) Which is going to almost always be the case with anything in the ~/.ssh directory anyway. I get the security implications of allowing anything else access, but why is the user's own named group not ok?
FibroJedi, to linux My "Screenshot Dump" folder is so out of control. I need to do some culling BUT I also need to save and rename some so I can find them at a later date.
What I wish #Linux had was a desktop application that could identity objects and expressions in pictures similar to how Google Photos (others are available while stocks last) does.
Because I don't want to upload 2000 images to my Google drive to find the one I'm looking for with a /laugh emote in it.
Taffer, @FibroJedi I use digiKam for “organizing” my photo collection, it might be able to do something useful?
Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10, and all editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through that date. Existing LTSC releases will continue to receive updates beyond that date based on their specific...
itsfoss, to linux
domdel, @itsfoss Well, pacman -Suy vs apt-get update and apt-get upgrade ; I think Arch is shorter.
;p
revan_66, @itsfoss yeah, so true 🤣
berniethewordsmith, to linux Spanish Ya me han llegado los pendrives para probar #Linux. Ahora estoy haciendo una copia de sistema de Windows por si las moscas y, una vez completada, let's get this party started 💿
I setup a micro PC with Ubuntu and plugged it into my TV for media streaming, and was just wondering if there was a way to optimize the experience for non KBM
👏 🍻
bsod, French @yvan de rien :)
Upgrading from ubuntu 23.10 to 24.04 I found a broken package: libfreerdp2-2. This package is not in var/lib/dpkg/info, but terminal insists it is. I’ve tried purging it, removing it, apt --fix-broken install, but it always goes back to Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)...

killyourfm, @gamingonlinux I did! It was super easy!

kernellogger, to linux FWIW, in case you heard about "#Linux #kernel developers removed a deprecated #btrfs mount option #systemd relied on":
Once the issue was properly reported to the #LinuxKernel developers earlier this week a patch to make things work again was proposed and accepted within a day or two: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit/?id=440861b1a03c72; that patch will likely be mainlined in the next 72 hours and then backported to affected series.
the removal did not break the world, for a lot (most?) people things just worked fine
dreamos82, @kernellogger But if a feature is marked as deprecated, this mean that people should avoid using it. So what i don't understand is if they are undeprecating it, or just reintroduce it, because other projects ignored the deprecation (that shouldn't be how things work in an ideal world)
kernellogger, (edited ) depends on the definition of "ideal".
For the kernel it boils down to: the construct "deprecated" has not much meaning, apart from telling people to migrate away from something; what matters is Linus' "no regressions" rule[1].
Of course in reality things are more complicated and things sometimes needs to be handled on a case-by-case basis.

skerit, to linux Why is it impossible to buy eGPUs in Europe? They're all sold out. Is anyone even still making these?
The best one out there (Razer Core
X Chroma) came out in 2020. It's 4 years old! The runner-ups don't even have an ethernet port or other USB ports.Maybe this is what #framework should be making next.
sjosjo, @skerit I’ve been there! the best thing to do actually is invest in a regular desktop PC with standard (GPU) components and then run a Sunshine/Moonlight combo to connect to the desktop from anywhere and play your games at 120 fps.
Far cheaper and less vendor-lock.
Works great with potato-laptops as well.
skerit, @sjosjo My use case is actually a bit different: I ditched my desktop and now only have 1 laptop, a Framework 16. I mostly need the eGPU for display connectivity. And as a glorified dock :)
I’ve looked at a lot of other immutable distros and I might just end up using one of those, but I feel like taking on a bit of a challenge and there’s a few things I’m not very keen on with existing solutions (last paragraph is my idea if you want to skip the context)....
And why do you use them?

Hi guys, after some thinking, finally decided to jump on the Linux train and chose Opensuse TW, mainly for nostalgic reasons. I have an Acer Predator PT315-52, and wanted to dual boot it for now, just for safety reasons. I’m sure you all heard that before. However, when I get to the partitioning part of the installation, there...
