Hey #ottawa OC Transpo announced this morning that you can now pay for #publictransit with an Interac Debit Card. This is in addition to being able to pay with a credit card or mobile pay on any bus or LRT station #ontario#onpoli
#Ottawa folks, if you are getting paving done, avoid Black Tar.
Paving is not rocket science, and I'm sure it works out for a lot of customers. But if you have the misfortune to get one of their incompetent crews, you will get:
• 1/4” of asphalt instead of the contracted 2.5”
• A driveway that starts falling apart (see previous point) in less than a year
• The company suggesting it’s your fault for driving on the surface too early (we didn’t), or spilling oil/gasoline (from my electric car?)
• The company management offering superficial treatment (cheap for them) instead of the needed replacement or refund (not cheap, so they ignore the suggestion completely)
• Endless bromides regarding their (non-existent) high ideals regarding customer service
Please don't reply with suggestions for further action. Assume we've pursued them.
Just don't give these jerks your money.
Just so I’m very clear - The “not rocket science” remark was meant as a sarcastic comment towards Black Tar trying to gaslight us into thinking there was something complicated involved with the installation, as opposed to incompetent and shoddy work. I appreciate the trades in general, and there actually is some interesting science involved in asphalt.
I wasn’t unduly pressured to post this disclaimer 😄
@human3500 In our conversations with other pavers as we tried to get a handle on what action to take, we heard a lot of disparaging remarks about how BT runs their business. Some of these folks are former employees/contractors.
My rain gauge, a PALE (Plastic Accumulator of Liquid Evidence) shows we've had about 40 mm of rain so far today in #Ottawa. One storm is yet to arrive but should shortly.
It’s the kids birthday this week, it’s almost June and we’re all sick again. The kid’s had the “cough at night that doesn’t go away” for weeks and my throat and lungs hurt as they haven’t in a long time. Tests are negative for days and fuck I hate kindergarten sometimes. We haven’t changed a lot of our behaviors but the amount of kids hacking away at his school the past few weeks is sad frankly #ottawa#kids#covid
First time on the Byron Ave remodel(ish). The dump outs are shit but nice sections. Going to watch the 10k #ottawaraceweekend at Dows Lake where they turn up towards Bronson Ave to cross the bridge in case anyone else in #ottawa is watching. Big bike is hard to miss and the kid is asleep inside #ottbike#biketootet
So the NCC doesn’t seem to have posted on their website that the bike weekend closures are NOT running this weekend, so FYI for those of you who do not follow them on Twitter or instagram 🙃 Met some folks at the park who were riding on the parkway after 8 AM with kids who had to get the fuck off quickly when people ended up driving behind them #ottawa#ottwalk#ottbike
@grivettcarnac holy shit. why is the world like this? i’ve sent so many people biking on the parkways this weekend due to NCC bike days, what the heck??
@grivettcarnac I hate that they're closing the parkways to people because of race weekend. Wouldn't this be an opportunity to embrace the spirit of the event by "providing space for people of all ages and abilities to run their own races across the region" or some similar commspeak.
What is it with CanadianTire not selling replacement parts for their garden equipment? sheeeeeeshhh Of course, Rona has it. (See earlier post about broken wheelbarrow)
The Canadian Tire at Carlingwood has tons of moving boxes and moving supplies on the second floor -- notably cheaper than the ones being sold by some moving companies.
Chatted with a pharmacist this week about #covid boosters and they can only give them to folks over 65 and immunocompromised… unsure what kind of documentation that requires but province won’t pay for anything other… all the while movie industry folks I follow on social media show that everyone (actors don’t but everyone around them do) on movie sets still have to mask or they lose insurance coverage. So curious why #ottawa#cdnpoli#onpoli
Eligible individuals may receive an XBB COVID-19 vaccine in Spring 2024 if it has been 6 months from the previous COVID-19 vaccine dose or known SARS-CoV-2 infection (whichever is later).
https://www.ontario.ca/page/covid-19-vaccines> Eligible individuals may receive a COVID-19 vaccine if it has been six months since their previous dose or confirmed COVID-19 infection.
So from what I'm reading (and I'm due to get my booster in June), boosters are still every six months, regardless of whatever they're telling you.
Either the pharmacist is misinformed, the pharmacy has some really restrictive rules or both the City and the province are wrong.
@grivettcarnac If you go through the Ontario booking site, it should tell you if you are eligible based on their records of your history. If they say you are good to go, you are and the pharmacy is wrong.
