Looks like my playdoh baked up.The bread buns are great in the morning for breakfast with some butter and jam.

@ottaross No potato! I can’t experiment too too much here because we are empty nesters now so yes my bread is boring but it is tasty. I do try to experiment more with dinners though. I’d love to make a decent raisin bread.

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@ottaross Yes I've been meaning to try something like that. ;)

good morning, enjoy a crime cat.

say local government is just stooges for developers and the owner class, dedicated to upholding and continuing the legacy of violence perpetrated by police against the citizens. they don't work for us, they never have and never will.

Dianora,

@capybaraz Sounds about right for

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@johnefrancis @capybaraz I honestly don’t think that will happen until we can split the city back up into a city part and a rural township parts. That’s unlikely to happen (Never say never) but I am hopeful.

Fake outrage at charging developers even remotely the cost of servicing their far flung new homes leads to a direct fucking subsidy of sprawl. Great work #ottawa

@Auxonic The forced amalgamation forces expenses up not down. I wish the city could tell them to build their own wells and cesspools etc. as they are rural and not in the city.

Okay, this might sound weird, but this is what I'm thinking of today. I'm assuming most of you know the idiom, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." I know it's about looking at the horse's teeth to check it's age and health, but in my heart I have an alternate history where it's about The Trojan Horse, which doesn't really even make much sense, but it's still living there rent free.

So, does anyone else do this, make up alternate histories for words or phrases? If you do, I'd love examples!

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@RickiTarr eggcorns might interest you then. https://eggcorns.lascribe.net/Mondegreens are similar but applied usually to misheard song lyrics.

"We have challenges" is one of the most used phrases for "We screwed up and have a problem. Sometimes "challenges" is a legitimate term but it's still far overused. Overuse dilutes meaning.

So, this was released today. My third stamp with Canada Post. Qarlinngua (The pants). And technically my second stamp with a family member in it, as the tiny figure in it is my son Travis. Now for one with Hilary in it.

I’ve very proud of all of these, beyond the cache. They are about my home, and family. And also my family has a long history with the Post Office, 101 years. My grandfather, father, and brother were all postmasters in Roblin.

One of the things that has fallen to the way side with the past few years is the idea of brand loyalty. Yes for certain items I have a preference (I’ve had some clothing etc for 5-10+ yrs) in terms of durability and quality but beside that? Fuck no. Price. Patagonia? Nope. Canadian brands? Not really. If it’s not on sale then won’t even bother. I have mostly had the same clothes for the past five years, repairing them, maintaining, which I’ve always done but now with earnest

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@grivettcarnac I patch my jeans a lot using newly made cut-off jeans as patch material.

Dianora,

@grivettcarnac I keep the good clothes for concerts etc. There is no point wearing out brand new jeans working in the garden or whatever. ;)

So we are going to have public servants downtown 3+ days a week now. Okay. How is Ottawa and the province helping them get in and out? On my way home on a ho-hum Wednesday afternoon I was walking faster than the line of personal vehicles trapped on O'Connor. Can we not provide better, more affordable transit first?

Anyone else remember Jane Perry who was the music director at the Unitarian church? She would introduce the musicians for the concerts the Unitarian church put on. I was very surprised to see her obituary only today.

The introduction of quantum mechanical methods for solving physics problems is probably the worst thing that ever happened in the history of the mathematical sciences.

It has brought fundamental progress to a practical halt for an entire century, with no end in sight. It is now also visibly hindering the progress of technologies.

The content-free nature of math means ANY physics problem can be solved by ANY means. So QM ‘finality’ and ‘spookiness’ are superstitions, not science.

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@chemoelectric What I find annoying is the popular press opinion that "Einstein was wrong!" about QM - it's worse when his Nobel is not mentioned. Einstein was right all along.

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@chemoelectric That's what I was alluding to ;) To me pilot wave theory is very compelling.
Yes photons are discrete so yes we furiously agree so far.

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@chemoelectric Indeed. And some of the 'interpretations' such as M.W.I. are nonsense. (Although they make great SciFi! ;-) )

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@chemoelectric The Nobel disease. Appeal to authority except he has no authority.

Dianora,
@Dianora@ottawa.place avatar

@chemoelectric It's the old "publish or perish" syndrome at work today with less money for research being available we will continue to see shoddy research. In the so-called "soft sciences" we are seeing an epidemic of faked research. retractionwatch.com is busy.
