Dianora, Oh a Tornado did touch down in Quebec. 😞
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/tornado-touches-down-in-rigaud-monteregie-1.7216580
grivettcarnac, Hey #ottawa OC Transpo announced this morning that you can now pay for #publictransit with an Interac Debit Card. This is in addition to being able to pay with a credit card or mobile pay on any bus or LRT station #ontario #onpoli
MichaelPorter, #Ottawa folks, if you are getting paving done, avoid Black Tar.
Paving is not rocket science, and I'm sure it works out for a lot of customers. But if you have the misfortune to get one of their incompetent crews, you will get:
• 1/4” of asphalt instead of the contracted 2.5”
• A driveway that starts falling apart (see previous point) in less than a year
• The company suggesting it’s your fault for driving on the surface too early (we didn’t), or spilling oil/gasoline (from my electric car?)
• The company management offering superficial treatment (cheap for them) instead of the needed replacement or refund (not cheap, so they ignore the suggestion completely)
• Endless bromides regarding their (non-existent) high ideals regarding customer servicePlease don't reply with suggestions for further action. Assume we've pursued them.
Just don't give these jerks your money.
Dianora, lovely. Tornado watch for most of eastern Ontario.
Dianora, @ottaross "Climate change is a scam!" /s
ottaross, @Dianora how can there be deserts when it's raining like this? Lies!
human3500, My rain gauge, a PALE (Plastic Accumulator of Liquid Evidence) shows we've had about 40 mm of rain so far today in #Ottawa. One storm is yet to arrive but should shortly.
grivettcarnac, And yet the high speed rail being considered from Quebec to Toronto will fuck over the crown corporation VIA Rail in favour of a P3 because P3s continue to show the real value for money of these shit partnerships #ottawa #onpoli #cdnpoli https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/alstom-halts-work-on-redesign-hailed-by-city-as-final-fix-to-lrt-woes-1.7213904
chrisbegley, @grivettcarnac @Auxonic
Here is the breakdown
chrisbegley, @Auxonic @grivettcarnac from the Star this weekend
grivettcarnac, It’s the kids birthday this week, it’s almost June and we’re all sick again. The kid’s had the “cough at night that doesn’t go away” for weeks and my throat and lungs hurt as they haven’t in a long time. Tests are negative for days and fuck I hate kindergarten sometimes. We haven’t changed a lot of our behaviors but the amount of kids hacking away at his school the past few weeks is sad frankly #ottawa #kids #covid
grivettcarnac, Apparently this dude ran the whole marathon juggling. Gesus dude #gabesimages #ottawa #marathon #ottawaraceweekend #Photography
kdorse, I love Mayor Sutcliffe’s passion for opening roads for active use! Now imagine if he were consistent in this position.#ottawa #ottawalkers #ottbike
grivettcarnac, @kdorse the utter speed and urgency that goes into reopening the roads after the racers past is mind blowing. Absolutely no time wasted for this
grivettcarnac, First time on the Byron Ave remodel(ish). The dump outs are shit but nice sections. Going to watch the 10k #ottawaraceweekend at Dows Lake where they turn up towards Bronson Ave to cross the bridge in case anyone else in #ottawa is watching. Big bike is hard to miss and the kid is asleep inside #ottbike #biketootet
Nezchan, That is one pathetic bump out.
grivettcarnac, @Nezchan they tried as little as possible 🙃 but for Ottawa streets they are great!
grivettcarnac, So the NCC doesn’t seem to have posted on their website that the bike weekend closures are NOT running this weekend, so FYI for those of you who do not follow them on Twitter or instagram 🙃 Met some folks at the park who were riding on the parkway after 8 AM with kids who had to get the fuck off quickly when people ended up driving behind them #ottawa #ottwalk #ottbike
eljojo, @grivettcarnac holy shit. why is the world like this? i’ve sent so many people biking on the parkways this weekend due to NCC bike days, what the heck??
dairpo, @grivettcarnac I hate that they're closing the parkways to people because of race weekend. Wouldn't this be an opportunity to embrace the spirit of the event by "providing space for people of all ages and abilities to run their own races across the region" or some similar commspeak.
Dianora, What is it with CanadianTire not selling replacement parts for their garden equipment? sheeeeeeshhh Of course, Rona has it. (See earlier post about broken wheelbarrow)
MoniqueAC,
WhippoorwillSong, The Canadian Tire at Carlingwood has tons of moving boxes and moving supplies on the second floor -- notably cheaper than the ones being sold by some moving companies.
A good deal.
grivettcarnac, Chatted with a pharmacist this week about #covid boosters and they can only give them to folks over 65 and immunocompromised… unsure what kind of documentation that requires but province won’t pay for anything other… all the while movie industry folks I follow on social media show that everyone (actors don’t but everyone around them do) on movie sets still have to mask or they lose insurance coverage. So curious why #ottawa #cdnpoli #onpoli
alex, https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/public-health-topics/covid-19-vaccine.aspx
Eligible individuals may receive an XBB COVID-19 vaccine in Spring 2024 if it has been 6 months from the previous COVID-19 vaccine dose or known SARS-CoV-2 infection (whichever is later).
https://www.ontario.ca/page/covid-19-vaccines> Eligible individuals may receive a COVID-19 vaccine if it has been six months since their previous dose or confirmed COVID-19 infection.
So from what I'm reading (and I'm due to get my booster in June), boosters are still every six months, regardless of whatever they're telling you.
Either the pharmacist is misinformed, the pharmacy has some really restrictive rules or both the City and the province are wrong.
human3500, @grivettcarnac If you go through the Ontario booking site, it should tell you if you are eligible based on their records of your history. If they say you are good to go, you are and the pharmacy is wrong.
human3500,
johnefrancis, @human3500 looks pretty night-hawkish to me... it has some relatives too that also feed at night.
Either the nighthawk or it's relatives flies around in the dark making a regular, buzzy "meeeep" sound.
Nerdfest, @johnefrancis @human3500 They definitely make a weird noise
airfive, Dear Ottawans, are there any particular spaces you’d recommend for newbies to check out at #DoorsOpenOttawa 2024? #ottawa #architecture
Cassandra, @airfive I always liked the ones I guess they call "functional" buildings. See how things work behind the scenes!
johnefrancis, Visited Mechanicsville sector of #Ottawa today. 3rd. Maker Shop. Merry Dairy.
The locals were uncouth, but friendly and spoke a mostly intelligible creole of divine Nepeanean mixed with the Downtowner pidgin and bike bell dings.
Saw a garbage truck drive right over one of the many traffic calming boards. We have only like 3 in all of Barrhaven and they have 5000 in a 1 block radius of the hospital.
Overall, a lot nicer than Cumberland, where I have to go on the weekend.
Dianora, I am so very out of shape. Gardening is making me huff and puff so.. a little bit at a time I guess eh?
grivettcarnac, I do not love that a lot of the same driving mentality permeates how people move around on crowded MUPs in #ottawa If you were in the group of bros loudly ringing your bells in unison to get people walking to move right off the path so you all could blast through the middle so fast I could almost feel you on my left shoulder, well I’ll tell you to fuck off in person when you’re stopped next time too. Slow the hell down and wait a singular minute once in a while #ottbike #biketooter
WTL, @grivettcarnac Blows my mind how many cyclists execute what I'd consider a dangerous pass on the paths.
I ring my bell when I'm passing pedestrians so they know I'm there (you can check my YT ride videos). I also will slow down to a crawl rather than pass between two pedestrians. It’s not hard.
WTL, @human3500 @grivettcarnac 👍🏻 My bell is a pleasant "ding”, and I believe it is better at communicating my intention than me talking. The noise cancellation on my airpods lets bells through, which is handy.
Dianora,
Auxonic, @Dianora last time I got that the last digit of my postal code had been cut off on the shipping label… still came through, just late
plantarum, #Sutcliffe on #CBC #Ottawa taking the position that return to office is none of his business, it's between the fed government and the civil service unions.
Curious how it's none of his business now, when the government is increasing days in office. When we were all working remote he sure thought it was his business to lobby to get us back downtown.
stephanie, @plantarum Anand also said that managers were supposed to be flexible on exemption... Which isn't true at all
human3500, @plantarum He's distancing himself from it because the union, quite correctly, assigned some blame for the new RTO quota to him and you all hate the stupid new policy.
The best part of him opening his mouth is that many of his voters are now mad at him because they have a long commute on a transit service that he's cutting at their request.
I'm loving that actions have consequences.
Dianora, So it was -40 last week and +40 this week. Welcome to #Ottawa
laineysluck, beat the heat with:
a new pair of shorts from our full bin!
pair them with a sharp white shirt from our packed rack!
nap through the heat of the day like Lainey!
a rack of white button up shirts with two purses in front
Lainey the mostly white Calico cat loaf's on a large plastic bin
geekingirl, Crowd is growing here at #Ottawa City Hall.
#RemoteWork enables people across Canada to have good government jobs and helps ensure that public policy isn’t made by people living in an Ottawa bubble.
Cassandra, @geekingirl My friend (and her cat) made this one. #Ottawa
