@dgar one friend did ask „what are you gonna do with all those rocks, why are you bringing them home?“
Another friend said: „I like rocks. A rock never asks me why I bring home all those humans, and what am I gonna do with them“
@dgar I used to be an archaeologist and found this on an ancient field boundary in Derbyshire. This was back in the early noughties. I was so taken with how smooth it was, not worked by hand but presumably by the water, that I kept it. I touch it when I am stressed and over thinking things. It is my “grounding stone”.
@feather1952 I'm on my phone, without access right now, but we walk a lot of beaches and coastline, seeing many unusual shapes, textures and colors. I usually pick out a pocket of white ones to decorate my garden.
A few years ago, from a campground on the north shore, the beach rock looked artificial, purple, orange, White, spotted, etc, textures and colours I had never seen. I took a lot of pictures, if I remember in a week or so, I'll have access to some you will be amazed by. No pocket ones
@feather1952 I never was interested before, I didn't have any hobbies, collections or strong interests, until I retired. Now I'm a bit sponge-like, growing fruit trees, foraging mushrooms, exploring wild islands, and leaving apple trees behind. And then one day I saw an unusual rock. Now, that's all I see 🤣
@dgar bonus snail shell I found plus a mouse skull I cleaned. Also I’m ancient 😊 (also I have a million more rocks, shells, bones, wasp nests, shelf fungi, fossils, a mummified flat toad someone ran over on my driveway)
@dgar I took this photo at the Grand Canyon. See that whitish rock sticking out? Looks like it was drawn by Don Martin (MAD Magazine). I immediately texted it to my brother. Cool rocks are still cool rocks.
@dgar Here’s a cool rock I keep in my pocket for just this eventuality. Labradorite: some nice rainbow effects if you catch it the right way in the light. Enjoy!
And here's a face I made, mostly of rocks, but there are feathers, wood, shell, and paint involved. He guards the entrance to the Pit of Doom (my basement)
