@GottaLaff Every single juror on every grand jury and regular jury that Trump has faced in recent trials - the Manhattan fraud trial, the two E. Jean Carroll trials, all the grand juries in DC, GA, and NYC - has voted to hold him accountable. Every one so far. Even the Trumpy one. And this trial is in NYC. I am not worried.

I try my best to prevent all that alarm, anger, frustration etc. from overtaking common sense enough that I don't jump to conclusions, make premature judgments, throw cold water over process/outcomes before they ever happen.
But boy, do I get it. I empathize.

That takes a lot of mental and emotional strength. A lot of us, that would include me, are not that strong.
@SummerDay Oh, and you know what helps? Being pro-active, DOING something. Donate, make calls, write letters, do whatever you can to put your voice out there.
@GottaLaff I remember it was a catch phrase for a while, tho' actually it might have been "We'll see what happens!" ... when he didn't want to give any kind of answer.
If negative predictions are accurate they can help us prepare (and help prevent despair because if we keep getting gobsmacked by surprises, it wears us down).
@geonz@GottaLaff But doomers never say, "okay, if Trump is not convicted here are other things we can do in that eventuality." They're wailing "TRUMP WILL NEVER PAY DEMOCRACY IS DOOMED!" Which isn't helpful at all. That's not preparation, that's blind despair and rage to make you crawl into a ball and cry yourself to sleep.

Every step of the way, the doomers just pivot their doom. "He'll never be indicted." He's indicted. "He'll never go on trail." He goes on trial. "He'll never be convicted."
If he's convicted it will be "He'll never go to prison." If he goes to prison it will be "He'll be paroled in a week." If he spends a year locked up they'll say, "it was only a slap on the wrist."
@GottaLaff You always have to wonder what loudly opinionated Doomers are trying to accomplish. If people acted on what they say, nothing good would ever get done.
@GottaLaff I do not understand the doomers landing on you or anyone trying to report/define/explain/inform. I am especially appreciative of your point of view - neither relentlessly up-or-down-beat. Exuberance - YES! Hopeful - by all means. Opinion - hell yes, but follow the bouncing ball and enjoy/lament the results but at least wait for results.

I learned early on when I joined this app not to bring the negative here. Even if I was feeling it. And the truth is, it has helped me. While I may not always feel positively about things that are happening, not typing that out keeps me from dwelling on it.
And if I need to get a dose of negativity, I just pop on over to Twitter and get my fill.
Then I remember why I like it here.
He's on trial! This is a win. It's a criminal trial. He's forced to sit his orange ass there under penalty of arrest.
We sometimes forget to take a win.
We often let the perfect be the enemy of that orange criminal is on trial right now, after trying desperately to dodge and foil this one date with Judge Marchan and the State of New York. This is an actual good.
I think that it's fascinating even at this stage, but we won't know the outcome until the jury renders its verdict, so it's pointless to try to predict because none of us are in the jury room.
None of us watching from the outside gets to see everything the jury does, and we certainly don't get to study the exhibits in context the way the jury will be able to. They get all of the testimony and the exhibits. They see the reactions of the defense, the prosecutors, the witnesses, etc. They'll have a much more complete picture of the whole thing than we will. And they'll be charged with ruling based on the evidence presented to them in the court room, not what's being reported on social media and in the press. While juries can be unpredictable, they will be fully vetted before the trial begins, and I for one trust that they'll do their job according to the law.
I appreciate your rundowns that allow us to watch the process unfold. This is really the good part of social media.

I think a lot of people are pretty pessimistic that he'll ever face any actual consequences regardless of trial outcome(s) and tbf the track record of rich white guys facing consequences is pretty dismal so it's not exactly unwarranted pessimism.
@GottaLaff That's true, for sure. He's been convicted of multiple things before, it's not like cases never go against him. I just think a lot of people are real tired of him getting off scot-free anyway.
@GottaLaff Has anything stuck further than some monetary penalties? As long as it's just money he's impervious to consequence.
Example:

@mnemonicoverload He hasn't been a defendant in a criminal trial yet, so no.
Civil trials are only about $$, as are penalties for the crap he pulls, until a judge has no other choice. Jailing him is a last resort for judges for reasons that the legals explained and I've totally forgotten.
social media is used by many for catharsis. it's understandable but it does degrade the tenor of interactions on a macro scale
for those who use social media as a dumping grounds for your anxieties and frustrations, i feel you and you don't bother me because i understand
but if you use social media instead as an exercise in reaching for positivity, that pays more dividends for your psychological health than using it as a simple venting chamber

@GottaLaff well he is the GOP front runner for president right now, despite leading an insurrection, so you can understand why anyone is skeptical of justice. Talk to his supporters, probably your neighbor, and you’ll be less hopeful. I’m sorry to say.
I am also hopeful, after seeing how he handled the first real scary adult situation focused only on him actually begin its process that he can’t sway, that he may well just collapse into himself like the Poltergeist house before it’s all over.
His time in public has to be managed. This takes that control mechanism away and I don’t think he’ll do well.
And I’m small and honest enough to admit it makes me exceedingly happy.
In defense of the doomers, most have been smelling this particular shade of orange sh!t for about a decade now. A lot of them probably have grown dismissive of any notion that smell will ever abate. Don't look for optimism on death row.
Is not asking folks to be hopeful at least kinda like asking them to be optimistic? I agree that chicken littling before things get started in this case is unwise, unproductive, and unhealthy, but I understand how folks can jump to defeatism after having suffered what so many would term... "defeats." Will avoid using synonyms going forward.
"Let's try to be hopeful" Is pretty close to "let's be optimistic." I'm just saying optimism is in short supply. I've read much of what you posted today (and for the past several). I enjoy your feed. Not sure where/why we're at odds on this.
@GottaLaff I definitely appreciate what you and others are doing to get us up to speed. I can understand the concerns of “is trump going to get away with this,” but so far for this trial, everything seems, well, as typical as it can get for jury selection.
