A huge congratulations to @philipthalis on his well-deserved award.
Philip is undeniably both one of Australia's most respected architects and a tireless advocate for good urban design.
More importantly, he's not afraid to speak up publicly against bad state government planning decisions, as he did with Barangaroo, even when there's a personal cost.
Been lurking on this lovely instance without offering an #introduction...
I'm Rob (he/him), #architect - teacher/practitioner - in class and on site in West Midlands, UK. Mid/late period Gen Xer with all the nerd baggage of being a teen in the late 80s + early 90s.
Instance infiltration thanks to hanging out with anthropologists and I think architecture should team up with the humanities more often.
Book purchasing problem. Favourite band: #HalfManHalfBiscuit. It's all about the words innit.
This gorgeous turret is on a rather beautiful Glasgow Style tenement on Bridge Street in the Laurieston area of Glasgow. Built in 1898, it was designed by James Miller, an architect who, in my opinion, deserves to be as well known in the city as 'Greek' Thomson or MacKintosh.
Anyone has experience working with an architect? I’m looking to start a renovation but I have no idea what’s the process. And a builder I talked to told me to get an architect to draw up a plan first. He also said he could refer one to me and it’ll likely cost $12k - $15k for the plan.
Is this a reasonable price? It’s a 1500sqft old colonial two story house.
13 Jan 1611: Inigo Jones #architect becomes 'surveyor' to Prince Henry of #Wales#otd
Until till the latter’s death on 6 Nov 1612, so not for very long.
