@msquebanh
I only see one?
Doh. Counting bumblebees as bees!
Not intuitive to me. Swedish might be pretty darn close to English (in a global view), but our word for bumblebees is entirely separate from bees. Humla & bi. So I guess that carries over for me.
@msquebanh. Hello PNW. We haven’t eaten the hostas yet. I will look at them differently now. We have volunteer lettuce ready to harvest. This will be the next meal. The hostas will wait. #growyourown.
#DeathCamas - all parts of plant are #toxic & shouldn't be handled. Only bee that can tolerate its toxins is the specialist mining bee. Toxic to animals, especially sheep. Humans have been poisoned after ingesting bulbs; kids have been poisoned after ingesting flowers & flower buds.
Local Indigenous food gatherers would mark spots where death camas appeared - easily identified when they're in bloom - and weed out all bulbs around areas marked in Spring, after plant has died off for season. This is how they managed wild food gardens for generations. Death camas often grows in same fields as common camas, the latter is a longtime traditional food for Coast Salish native peoples.
Indoors - one of my tiger #orchids bloomed last night.
Outdoors - 1st #IrisNigricans, #NationalFlower of #Jordan bloomed & more to open this week. One of my Syrian friends gave me a pot of rhizomes 3yrs ago.
More grape soda #irises bloomed too.
Our white #lilac tree is now over 8 feet tall.
I originally #propagated this from a small cutting, taken for free from a construction demolition site, 10 yrs ago.
It smells fabulous 🥰
Meanwhile, indoors, one of my #ChristmasCactus#houseplants has its last bloom (for this round). They bloom multiple times/year. I propagate a lot of them too.
