Iirc there's been a few cases here in the Nordics of people who grew up in Thailand (iirc) eating really poisonous mushrooms because they look like nice edible ones there.
I know enough to know that I can identify only one edible and one poisonous kind. One each. Out of the gods know how many are out there.

The Gaza Strip is less than 2/3 the size of the City of Chiacgo.
It has about 89% the population of Chicago.

What should be going on there is debate on which metro lines to build next. Not where to hide from a war forced upon them by corrupt fascists (on both sides. oh, and are fascists ever not corrupt?).

Outer tracks for the local service, inner for express.
And inner built to facilitate connections onwards is both directions, for both passenger & cargo.

Once again I find myself sketching in all the infrastructure we could be having instead of endless conflicts & war.

Yeah, I'm thinking freight would be of interest only when there's connections to both Egypt and Israel and on to Turkey etc.

#MackenzieKing’s “cheerleading” for #Hitler’s regime got a tremendous boost during his tour of landmarks of the #Nazi “miracle,” as Teigrob recounts in riveting detail. The photographs tell a very chilling story as well, especially one that shows King sitting proudly in Hitler’s seat at the All-German Sports Competitions while surrounded by Nazi bigwigs in full swastika-studded regalia.

"He was nice & polite to me" as a visiting head of government. Politeness once again being enough cover to hide blatant vociferous racism & misogyny & hunger for power.

Same is true for Indian food, Thai food, and even pizza really.
Plus that the menus can seem as coordinated as McDonald's.
I'd say there's been diversity added here in Stockholm in the last 20 years as we've grown more diverse ethnically.

Best Chinese food in town imo used to be at my local food court, just pick a random one from the menu that was actually in Chinese.

Look. I know I'm cynical, but I'm just not comfortable using my credit card to pledge money to a private company that will then coerce my child to run laps around a gym while calling it a "Fun Run" in order to increase the amount of money said company 'gives' back to my child's school.

But I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Anyone out here ever heard of a company called "My Booster" or maybe "Boosterthon" (it's unclear)?

Gurre,

Many of us Swedes ask ourselves the same thing about our school system too. For-profit tax-funded charter schools that cities can't say no to in any way, basically.

But at least it increases segregation and reduces the chances at good lives for poors & POC.

If this were a 50s sci-fi movie, the radiation from the current extreme solar storms would give us all the ability to see the extraterrestrial lizard aliens living among us as they really are instead of in their human-appearing guises. The twist at the end is that we discover we're ALL lizard aliens.

Elevator pitch for the sequal:
Turns out we're all different kinds lizard aliens (re-use costumes from other movies) and there's a plucky tribe of actual humans in a small town trying to survive unnoticed.

So the RTA's own modelling showed the Rozelle Interchange would be a traffic disaster—but generating more toll road trips for Transurban was more important.

"The [NSW Roads and Traffic Authority] finalised the first business case for the WestConnex tunnel project in June 2013, with the help of road designers from around the world.

"[Paul Forward, a former CEO of the RTA] said the initial concept did not include the Rozelle Interchange.

...

"In 2014, an expert review group was formed to assess these plans.

"Mr Forward said it was at this point that TfNSW bureaucrats began to question the connectivity provided by the design.

"The RTA's former director of traffic Chris Ford told the inquiry that 15 alternative designs were modelled.

"Mr Ford said the modelling found that another motorway leading to the Anzac Bridge would cause congestion.

"'The issues that we see today were very clearly established in the modelling in 2014,' he said.

"In November 2015, after Mr Forward and Mr Ford were dismissed, TfNSW updated the WestConnex business case to include the tunnel to the Anzac Bridge, despite the congestion concerns raised by the modelling.

"In 2016, Transport for NSW updated the business case a second time ... creating a tunnel linking the Iron Cove Bridge to the Anzac Bridge."

...

"In 2018, the NSW government sold its 51 per cent stake in the Sydney Motorway Corporation, the body responsible for operating WestConnex, to Transurban for $9 billion.

"Mr Forward said the final design would generate a larger number of toll trips than previous options."

And the response from drivers to all this will still be that there needs to be more motorways built. Always is, without fail.

Gurre,

@shermozle @ajsadauskas @fuck_cars
Same here in Stockholm. Now that the 21 km tunneled motorway ringroad is nearing completion they're adding several widenings of connecting motorways etc as separate projects even though even in the planning documents they're explicitly consequences of the big new motorway "bypass".

The European Parliament sent a letter on April 25 to 's leaders, urging them to compel Bank International (RBI) to cease its activities in in compliance with sanctions.

The -based bank group, the largest remaining Western bank in Russia, has been under increasing pressure since the start of the all-out war to scale down its activities in the country.

The vast majority of the video material is from Rail Baltica itself, and the whole thing is rather a hagiographic in its style

Everything is amazing and important and significant, and the comments below it gushing

It's mostly factually correct, if one sided, and missing some of the crucial points

True. They say it is to maintain our own defenses, but what is Ukraine doing if not being our first line of defense right now?

Ramp up production, yes, but keep sending from our existing supplies until new production is at the needed level.
If our stocks are already depleted, how the F were we ever gonna win a defensive war ourselves anyway?

We call him Justinianus in Swedish (since that was his name in Latin)

Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonson said that now, after the country has joined NATO, it does not rule out the possibility of supplying its JAS-39 Gripen fighters to Ukraine.

"The deliberations are ongoing, and they take place within the fighter jet coalition," said the head of the Swedish Ministry of Defense when asked about the current state of these discussions.

Apparently there's a "glass" measurement in the Swedish set of kitchen measurements, at 2 dl. Never seen it used in recepies though.
And no, our glasses aren't all 2 dl.

Sounds very strange to use a regular glass as a measureme, the size sure ain't standardised.
